Development of a Resinoid Diamond Wire Containing Metal Powder for Slicing a Slicing Ingot

Toshiyuki Enomoto; Yutaka Shimazaki; Yasuhiro Tani; Mari Suzuki; Yuichi Kanda

Abstract Loose-abrasive wire sawing widely employed for slicing silicon ingots has problems of dirty working environment and inefficiency. Fixed-abrasive wires, namely electroplated diamond wires and resinoid diamond wires, have been developed to overcome these problems. Resinoid diamond wires, which can be produced at a lower cost, can be put to practical use, but they have a low breaking twist strength. In this study, metal powder is added to the resinoid bond to strengthen it. A series of experiments revealed that the breaking twist strength, heat resistance, tool wear resistance, and slicing efficiency of this wire are significantly improved.

Development of a remote monitoring system for a manufacturing support system for small and medium-sized enterprises

Toshiaki Kimura; Yuichi Kanda

This research discusses a manufacturing support system for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). This paper describes an overview of a remote monitoring system as one component of a manufacturing support system. The remote monitoring system can support single-night unmanned nighttime operations of diversified manufacturing commonly found in Japanese SME. A prototype system of the remote monitoring system consists of a remote monitoring system using cell phones, 3-D layered information viewing environment (LIVE) and a load balancing system based on the remote monitoring was built by using open-oriented technologies and tested and is discussed.

Development of an Information-interoperable Environment Based on Open Technologies for Lean Production Systems

Toshiaki Kimura; Hirohisa Tezuka; Yuichi Kanda

Lean production systems require an information-interoperable environment that can process diverse factory information for all workers to do KAIZEN activities. Moreover, the information-interoperable environment should be connected to an inter-enterprise collaboration environment. For those reasons, an Information-Interoperable Environment (IIE) that can connect device-level information and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)-level information was developed using Open Robot (or Resource) interface with the Network (ORiN). Moreover, CaoSQL2FDML for changing the IIE’s information to Factory Data Markup Language (FDML) information was developed for inter-enterprise collaboration. This paper describes development of IIE including CaoSQL2FDML, prototype system development, and results of the system’s operational testing.

Development of an After-Sales Support Inter-Enterprise Collaboration System Using Information Technologies

Toshiaki Kimura; Fumio Kasai; Yoichi Kamio; Yuichi Kanda

This research paper discusses a manufacturing support system which supports not only maintenance services but also consulting services for manufacturing systems consisting of multi-vendor machine tools. In order to do this system enables inter-enterprise collaboration between engineering companies and machine tool vendors. The system is called “After-Sales Support Inter-enterprise collaboration System using information Technologies” (ASSIST). This paper describes the concept behind the planned ASSIST, the development of a prototype of the system, and discusses test operation results of the system.

Development of a remote monitoring system using a portable phone for manufacturing support systems

Toshiaki Kimura; Yuichi Kanda

Manufacturing systems that can be adapted to the fluctuations of the number of orders and the kind of products for smaller enterprises are required. These systems are based on the premise that manufacturing products in small quantities by manual operations is done in the daytime and large quantities are manufactured at night using automated systems. But recent sharp fluctuations in the number and variety of orders make the continuation of the present way of manufacturing difficult.
