Geometry and mesomorphic properties of new schiff bases containing thiazole ring

M. M. Murza; Z. Kh. Kuvatov; M. G. Safarov

New liquid-crystalline azomethines — 2-(4-alkoxybenzylideneamino)-4-(3-nitrophenylamino)thiazoles —displaying nematic mesomorphism at 42–137°C have been synthesized. The structure of these compounds was studied by the MNDO LCAO MO method. A correlation was found between the geometric parameters and liquid crystal properties.

New Derivatives of Thiazole with Mesomorphous Properties

Z. Kh. Kuvatov; M. G. Safarov; M. M. Murza

Azomethines containing a thiazole ring have been synthesized and their liquid crystal properties have been investigated. The influence of the central group and substituents in the azomethine component on the type and temperature range of the mesomorphous properties of the compounds synthesized has been elucidated.

M. M. Murza; D. M. Safina; Z. Kh. Kuvatov

Abstract4-[4-(3,6-Dihydro-4-methyl-2H-pyran-3-ylhydroxy)phenylaminocarbonylmethoxy]benzylidene-4′-alkoxyanilines, which have the properties of smectic and nematic liquid crystals, were synthesized.

The Investigation of Dielectric Properties of the Nematic Liquid Crystal in Superthin Layers

A. N. Chuvyrov; G. A. Mukhamedjarova; Z. Kh. Kuvatov

Abstract In this work, the complex permittivity measurements on nematic liquid crystals which form superthin layers between mica surfaces have been performed. Using time domain reflectometry, at frequencies between 1MHz and 1GHz, we observe influence of solid surfaces on dielectric characteristics of nematic liquid crystals with different values of dielectric anisotropy.

Pyrolysis of polyaoetylene: dependence of conductivity on pressure and doping

Z. Kh. Kuvatov; S.M. Kagarmanov; A. N. Chuvyrov

Summary form only given. Effect of external pressure on the electrical conductivity of pyrolyzed polyacetylene (PPA) of various submolecular structure has been studied. The Initial polyacetylene samples with amorphous and crystalline structures has been synthesized by the dehydrochlorination of PVC with using the interphase catalysis. It has been found that when the applied pressure changes up to 1 GPa the conduStIvity of the crystalline PPA (pyrolys temperature T/sub P/=400, 500/spl deg/C) increases by a factor of 5-10, wheareas the conductivity of the amorphous PPA with a content of hexagonal crystalline modification up to 20% increases by a factor of 1000. A doping of PA by both organic ferro-compounds iron acetylacetone A/sub c/A/sub c/Fe and ferrocen (C/sub 5H/sub 5)/sub 2/Fe leads to a decrease of the electrical conductivity of products on similar form. The conductivity change with pressure increase is the same as the conductivity change for the undoped polymer.

Liquid-crystalline derivatives of 1,3-dioxane

M. M. Murza; Z. Kh. Kuvatov

Some 5-(2-pentyl-1,3-dioxanyl) 4-(4′-substituted benzylidenamino)benzoates with smectic and nematic liquidcrystalline properties have been synthesized.

Effects of an alternating electric field on the transparency of a thin field of the smectic phase of p-type n-Octylhydroxybenzoic acid

A. P. Kapustin; Z. Kh. Kuvatov; L. S. Mamaeva; A. N. Trofimov

An experimental study was made of the transparency of the smectic phase of p-type n-octylhydroxybenzoic acid as a function of the intensity and frequency of an electric field. A significant thermal hysteresis was found: at a given temperature, the smectic phase obtained by heating from the solid crystalline state is less sensitive to the electric field than the phase produced by cooling from the isotropic liquid. The transparency changes are explained on the basis of the appearance, growth, and destruction of domain structure in the electric field.
