Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to analyze the influence of particle motion on the lubrication characteristics. The dynamics of the particle in the lubricant is also studied.Design/methodology/approach – The dynamics of the particle is studied using Newtons second law. The particle dynamic equation is solved to determine the particle velocity, angular velocity, and location. The modified Reynolds equation is solved in couple with particle motion to determine the film pressure and velocity.Findings – The motion of a particle suspended in the lube oil is clarified. The initial relative velocity between the particle and the fluid has a significant effect on the lubrication. For the same particle location and velocity, the larger particle or the closer distance between particle center and lower plate has greater effects on the film pressure.Research limitations/implications – The influence of the particle geometry on the lubrication is neglected in the study because of the small size of the particle, ...

Generalized frequency response functions (GFRFs) are a kind of nonparametric model in frequency domain for nonlinear system, which have clear physical signification and application value. Because the direct frequency domain identification of the generalized frequency response functions requires enormous computation, the online engineering applications of the GFRF model are largely restricted. By using multi models composing idea, a new online modeling method for generalized frequency response functions model is presented based on the preset models in this paper, and the model composing formula is deduced. This method can efficiently reduce computer requirement of GFRF online modeling, and can be easily realized in engineering.

Particle contaminated lubricating oil has a great effect on the performance of piston-liner.Sand and dust climates are typical in Western China, which are simulated by a self-built test bed.Taking piston-liner,an important friction pair in internal-combustion engine,as research object, experiments are planned and performed considering the effect of sand and dust for liner.Surface morphology of the inner surface of liner is measured after nmning-in,100 hours running under normal condition and 100 hours running under sand and dust contaminated condition respectively.By analyzing the test results, conclusions are obtained that the presence of sand and dust in lubricating oil destroy the lubricating condition of the piston-liner,speeds up the wear of liner, especially on the major thrust side, and increases partial wear greatly.Ferrographic analyses of used lubricating oil also testify to the abrasion of liner caused by sand and dust particles. The experiment results provide practical help for further theoretical research of the effect that sand and dust contaminated lubricating oil has on liner in engine.
