A high-speed broadband tunable microwave source utilizing the wavelength tunable characteristics of distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser is proposed and demonstrated. The wavelength tuning of the laser is achieved instantaneously by controlling the voltage of the phase section of the DBR laser. By means of optical delay self-heterodyne technology, the microwave signal with the property of frequency broadband tuning is generated. Sweep speeds of 5 and 40 μs of the sweep-frequency source prototype were achieved and the maximum tuning range was up to 38.45 GHz.

Harmonic millimeter wave (mm-wave) generation and frequency up-conversion are experimentally demonstrated using optical injection locking and Brillouin selective sideband amplification (BSSA) induced by stimulated Brillouin scattering in a 10-km single-mode fiber. By using this method, we successfully generate third-harmonic mm-wave at 27 GHz (f(LO) - 9 GHz) with single sideband (SSB) modulation and up-convert the 2GHz intermediate frequency signal into the mm-wave band with single mode modulation of the SSB modes. In addition, the mm-wave carrier obtains more than 23 dB power gain due to the BSSA. The transmission experiments show that the generated mm-wave and up-converted signals indicate strong immunity against the chromatic dispersion of the fibers.

This paper presents a systematic description of the methods for calibrating microwave network analyzer and test fixtures, and discusses the problems arising in the calibration. The general criteria for choosing calibration standards and corresponding algorithms are discussed and suggestions to overcome these problems and improve the calibration accuracy are also given. It has been found that for reciprocal test fixtures, the four equations obtained with the thru standard can be used at the same time. Meanwhile, the calibration accuracy can be improved. It has been shown that using the same calibration procedures but different algorithms may lead to the occurrence of frequency limitation.

Optoelectronics integration technology has several outstanding advantages, including low power consumption, high speed, high reliability, and small size. It is well known as one of the key technologies to break through the bottlenecks of current information networks, such as bandwidth, power consumption, and intelligence. In this paper, we review recent advances in China on optoelectronic devices and integration technology, and its applications in the fields of optical communication and information processing, ultrahigh resolution imaging and display, and wide-band gap optoelectronic device. In addition to recent progress, the current research situation, experiences, and infrastructure associated with optoelectronics integration technology are also presented. The main research directions and the contents of optoelectronic devices and integration technology are also analyzed in detail with a view towards forward development in the next five years.
