The semantic Web constitutes an environment in which human and machine agents will communicate on a semantic basis. It appears as a promising technology for implementing e-learning. In this paper we have described an approach to bring knowledge service to the semantic web for the area of education and learning. We have shown how knowledge service functionalities can be embedded into semantic Web services, supported by other services for retrieving learning resources or user information. We have discussed our EKSS prototype implementing such services, connecting and integrating the knowledge creation, knowledge process, knowledge query and search in our EKSS framework.

Semantic similarity measure plays an important role in semantic search. However, Intention in educational resources search with semantic similarity has been rarely. In this paper, we proposed ontology based semantic similarity method to compute the user query and provided educational resources, so as to improve the search efficiency. A prototype system has been implemented in light of this approach. Given a keyword combined query, the system outputs a ranked list of relative results according to the semantic similarity. In the experiment, the system achieved the better result than traditional keyword based search.

The rapid increase of e-learning resource makes it difficult to make, find access and reuse useful resource. To solve the problem, we develop a standardized content service system (SCSS) for distributed learning resource. The system is based on J2EE technology and Web services. It can provide the service for the conversion of non-standard resource and the development of standard resource. It also provides the management and discovery service for the standard e-learning resource. All the subsystems of SCSS make use of SOAP protocol to communicate conveniently. So the system has the characteristic of striding the platform, high performance and low coupling. The SCSS can provide high quality service for distributed e-learning resources

In this paper, we proposed the learning resource ontology(LRO) models to formally describe learning content and learning context, respectively. In addition to utilizing the models to formally describe content, we also derived ontological relation between the content and context at semantic level. Furthermore, we have built a semantic similarity algorithm to measure the similarity between ontologies. Based on the similarity measure, the process of LRO retrieval is presented.
