Este articulo describe una experiencia vivida por la docente de enfermeria, en la ensenanza de cuidados para los familiares que cuidan los pacientes ingresados que tienen una lesion medular provocada por un traumatismo vertebro-medular. El trabajo se desarrolla en un hospital de emergencia y traumatologia de la ciudad de Fortaleza (Ceara - Brasil), escenario del desarrollo de las actividades practicas de la disciplina de Enfermeria de el Proceso de Cuidado II, para los alumnos del 5o semestre del Curso de Graduado en Enfermeria de la Facultad de Farmacia, Odontologia y Enfermeria de la Universidad Federal del Ceara. La evaluacion del aprendizaje muestra que aprender los cuidados es: complicado, agotador, simple, recompensador y agradable. La modalidad de ensenanza se muestra como una manera innovadora de buscar una mejor calidad de vida de los pacientes con lesion medular y de sus familiares.Resumen Keywo rds : : Family Nursing. Cross-sectional and exploratory-descriptive study, conducted in a public hospital, of reference in trauma, in the period from May to October 2008. The objective was to evaluate the nursing technology using the Waterlow Scale to prevent pressure ulcers in people with spinal cord injury. Sixty patients with spinal cord injury were evaluated using the Waterlow Scale, of which 75% had final score of 28 points, with high risk for developing pressure ulcers. After ten days of hospitalization, 48,3% of those patients had not received any preventive guidelines; 68,3% of them already had pressure ulcers. El objetivo fue evaluar la influencia de la espiritualidad, la religion y las creencias personales de la calidad de vida de las personas con lesion medular. Se trata de un estudio cuantitativo, exploratorio de corte longitudinal. La recoleccion de datos se dio con 49 personas con lesion medular en dos fases: en el hospital y en el hogar, y se llevo a cabo mediante la aplicacion del instrumento de Calidad de Vida - Espiritualidad, Religion y Creencias personales - WHOQOL-SRPB. Los analisis exploratorios se llevaron a cabo mediante el uso de distribuciones de frecuencia univariadas y medidas descriptivas; validacion de consistencia interna y calculos de las dimensiones de las puntuaciones de la escala. Los resultados mostraron que las dimensiones relacionadas con la espiritualidad, la religion y las creencias personales adoptadas por los pacientes como estrategias para la mejora de su calidad de vida en esta investigacion se confirmaron en las puntuaciones mas altas en las areas de WHOQOL SRPB en dos fases; habia diferencias solo en la dimension sentido de la vida y la fuerza espiritual. Se espera que este estudio pueda resaltar la importancia del cuidado espiritual y emocional.

The aim was to understand the meaning of the experience of the acute stroke patient. This was a qualitative study, based on the conceptual theory of symbolic interaction. It was conducted in a unit specialized in the treatment of stroke at a tertiary hospital in Fortaleza-CE and the ethical aspects were respected. The study included ten patients and data were collected through open interviews. The data were organized and analyzed according to enunciation techniques. The meaning of the illness experience was constructed based on the perception of the feelings that arose during the hospitalization and was characterized by fear of death and the sequelae of the disease; sorrow for the distance from home; relief, when a patient perceived an improved clinical course; and a desire to change one´s lifestyle. The experience of illness due to stroke is complex, as meanings are elaborated from the feelings, actions and behaviors of the subjects.The aim was to understand the meaning of the experience of the acute stroke patient. Se objetivo hacer una explanacion sobre la interface del cuidado de enfermeria con las politicas de atencion al anciano. Presenta-se el envejecimiento como una realidad mundial y una victoria de la sociedad moderna; la situacion de las personas ancianas en Espana y las consecuencias sociales del envejecimiento en Espana; dependencia y necesidades de asistencia; situacion de las personas ancianas en Brasil; comparacion entre Espana y Brasil; niveles de dependencia; las soluciones que suministran las enfermeras y atencion domiciliaria como base de un mejor futuro. Las consideraciones apuntadas son: La atencion a la dependencia debe ser abordada de inmediato, considerar los fracasos en otros paises, para no caer en los mismos errores, instar a la poblacion mayor al mantenimiento de su independencia con promocion de la salud.The objective was to make an explanation on the interface of nursing care with the elder care policies. It is presented the aging phenomenon as a global reality and a victory of modern society; the situation of elderly people and the social consequences of aging in Spain; the dependence and assistance needs; the situation of elderly people in Brazil; comparison between Spain and Brazil; dependency levels; and the solutions that nurses provide and home care as a basis for a better future. The considerations given are: meeting the dependency must be addressed immediately, considering the failures in other countries, to avoid the same mistakes, and to urge the elder population to maintain their independence with health promotion.

Os problemas biopsicossocio-espirituais decorrentes da mutilacao por mastec-tomia constituem motivo de preocupacao para os profissionais de saude, mais precisamente da enfermeira. O objetivo deste estudo foi identificar os problemas que interferem na adaptacao familiar e social da cliente, antes e apos a cirurgia. Esta pesquisa, exploratoria, realizou-se em dois hospitais de oncologia da Cidade do Rio de Janeiro, envolvendo sessenta clientes com câncer de mama. A amostra constitui-se de tres grupos, com vinte clientes cada um. A coleta dos dados efetuou-se mediante entrevista individual. Os resultados indicam a falta de orientacao nos periodos pre e pos-operatorios, assim como problemas emocionais decorrentes da mutilacao que afetam especialmente a vida sexual. O trabalho oferece subsidios para o planejamento de acoes de enfermagem, visando o atendimento das necessidades apresentadas por essa clientela.

OBJETIVO Traducir y adaptar culturalmente a la lengua portuguesa el Ferrans and Powers Quality of Life Index Spinal Cord Injury - Version III y caracterizar la muestra en cuanto a los aspectos sociodemograficos y clinicos. METODO Estudio metodologico con vistas a la adaptacion transcultural, siguiendo las etapas propias de ese metodo: traduccion inicial, sintesis de la traduccion, traduccion de vuelta a la lengua original (back-translation), revision por un comite de jueces y pre prueba de la version final. Se llevo a cabo una pre prueba con 30 pacientes con lesion medular. RESULTADOS Se logro indice con 74 puntos, divididos en dos partes (satisfaccion/importancia). Los criterios de equivalencia semantica fueron evaluados como traduccion muy adecuada, superior al 87%, vocabulario y gramatica superior al 86%, idiomatica superior al 74%, experimental superior al 78% y conceptual superior al 70%. CONCLUSION Despues de adaptado transculturalmente, el instrumento se mostro adecuado semantica, idiomatica, experimental y conceptualmente, ademas de facilitar la evaluacion de la calidad de vida de personas con lesion medular.OBJECTIVE To translate and culturally adapt to Portuguese the Ferrans and Powers Quality of Life Index Spinal Cord Injury - Version III and characterize the sample in relation to sociodemographic and clinical aspects. METHOD A methodological study with view to cross-cultural adaptation, following the particular steps of this method: initial translation, translation synthesis, back-translation (translation back to the original language), review by a committee of judges and pretest of the final version. The pretest was carried out with 30 patients with spinal cord injury. RESULTS An index of 74 items divided into two parts (satisfaction/importance) was obtained. The criteria of semantic equivalence were evaluated as very adequate translation, higher than 87%, and vocabulary and were grammar higher than 86%. Idiomatic equivalence was higher than 74%, experimental greater than 78% and conceptual was greater than 70%. CONCLUSION After cross-cultural adaptation, the instrument proved semantic, idiomatic, experimental and conceptual adequacy, in addition to helping the evaluation of the quality of life of people with spinal cord injury.
