MULTICRITERIA ANALYSIS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT MANAGEMENT

Zvonko Kavran; Gordana Stefancic; Antun Presečki

This paper describes how the efficiency of the public urban transportation system depends on the identification of relevant parameters and their weights, which directly or indirectly influence the quality of urban traffic. Based on the preferences of decision-makers, it is necessary to consistently determine the significance of criteria, compare the strategies, and determine the one used in decision-making. This paper presents a model of multiple criteria decision-making based on the analytical hierarchical model with the aim of improving the efficiency of the public urban transportation system.

Ivana Ćavar; Danijela Barić; Zvonko Kavran

The quality of public urban transit organization depends to a great extent also on the organization and the quality of on-trip and pre-trip information services. The aim of this service is to provide relevant, accurate and usable traffic and transport information to current users of the public urban transit, as well as to attract new users, alleviating the burden on the roads and insuring high-quality transport service to motorists who at least on one section of their trip use public transport means. Apart from classical information forms this system greatly relies also on new telecommunication technologies including the third generation of mobile networks and mobile Internet. Apart from the wide range of methods of collecting information, their processing and dissemination, the entire problems of introducing the mentioned services into the newly organized system such as LRT needs to be systemically analyzed. It is especially important to analyze in advance and to define the relations between the private and public sector in the described process. The corporate plans of organizing the system of on-trip and pre-trip information in the LRT system applicable in the City of Zagrebare considered. Their implementability has been evaluated by a professional team defining the relevant factors in the selection of the corporate plan.

Adam Stančić; Ivan Grgurević; Zvonko Kavran

The surveillance system video structure represents a suitable medium for steganographic integration of the collected data about the condition of the road and its environment. The surveillance video retains the function of visual presentation of the condition on the road, and the integrated textual data are a component of the video recording structure. The analysis of the steganographically processed video frames indicates the impact on the integrated textual data, the video quality and the impact of manipulation of data on the integrated data. The work uses steganographic algorithm F5 for integration various amounts of compressed textual files into image recordings recorded under various conditions. In order to prove that integrated and extracted data have identical content, cryptographic and polynomial functions have been used. For the calculations of statistical properties of the values of red, green, blue and intensity component the model was used formed in the MATLAB / Simulink applications.

Zvonko Kavran; Ivan Grgurević; Tomislav Milinović

In the current environment telecom service providers are trying to adapt an offer in line with customer requirements. Student population is one of a group of users of telecommunications services. Behavioral segmentation allows investigation of the student population in the use of telecommunications services. Users can be divided according to the behavior, habits, loyalty or frequency of use of services or products. Segmentation allows service providers to create the potential user groups and tariffs that are based on a variety of habits and behaviors related to the use of telecommunications services. This paper presents the results of use of telecommunications services among students.

Cross-border E-learning platform for the education on river information system (RIS) development

Natalija Jolić; Zvonko Kavran; Damir Obad

E-learning platform for education on River Information Services (RIS) development in Republic of Croatia and Italy is presented in this paper. This platform is a result of one year research activities based on analysis of demand for education in this field. E-learning platform aims to become a system that tracks, launches and provides the interface between the user and learning objects. The uniqueness of this platform is assured by the fact that two neighboring countries, Italy and Croatia are co-operating on the topic of River Information Services for the first time. Italy and Croatia are both countries with long maritime tradition and are naturally inclined to exchange the knowledge and experiences on the sea navigation. In the last 5 years, Croatia has recognized the potential of its inland waterways and started to follow EU recommendations in working towards shifting cargo from roads to rivers. According to this, Inland Navigation Development Centre and Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences started to develop an e-learning platform for education on transport technology followed by graduated study curriculums and transport market experts and specialists demand. E-learning platform is recognized as European added value - improvement of co-operation, sharing of know-how and environmental and social benefits.

Development of nautical tourism: islands development motivator

Natalija Jolić; Nina Perko; Zvonko Kavran

The Republic of Croatia, as a Mediterranean country with an indented coast has an archipelago with more than a thousand islands which is a recognizable market potential of the Croatian tourism. Because of the natural values, a particularly valuable and successful part of the Croatian tourism and the potential of islands development is the development of nautical tourism. The indicators of the quality of nautical tourism and the nautical tourism quality management system have not been sufficiently studied yet. The basic principle of nautical tourism development management is the principle of sustainable development, which in a compromised and balanced manner is pre-condition for analyses of the need to preserve the natural environment and the need for economic development. Strategic documents of the Republic of Croatia define “nautical tourism as a special type of tourism which apart from navigation in private organization – cruising by one’s own or leased vessel with onboard accommodation and/or sleeping of tourists, includes also cruises in the organization of vessel owners and travel agencies with accommodation and/or sleeping of tourists onboard these vessels, and navigation of tourists onboard vessels for the purpose of other forms of holidays and recreation (fishing, diving).” The paper will implement the multi-criteria decision-making methodology in selecting the criteria and sub-criteria of the nautical tourism development model. The influence of criteria, sub-criteria and alternatives on the function of objective i.e. the development function of islands and the assessment of influence of factors will be determined. The research results are based on the expert assessment and input data on the system (elements, characteristics) of nautical tourism of the Republic of Croatia.

A Mathematical Model of UITS Demand for Investment Return Models

Natalija Jolić; Zvonko Kavran; Mihaela Bukljaš

According to recent statistics, 80% of European Union citizens live in urban areas and 40% live in large urban areas of over 200 000 inhabitants. On average a European citizen makes 1000 trips per year and half of these are less than 5 km long. An urban intelligent transport system (UITS) represents a vital subsystem of the traffic system and considers wider commercial and operational frameworks within which the flow of passengers and goods is planned and managed. The demand for UITS services can be valorized as highly qualitative, differentiated and derived. While researching transport phenomenon the implementation of models is inevitable and demand models highly desirable. This paper as a contribution to transport modeling improves decision making and planning in the UITS field. Time-variable and space-variable characters of UITS make it more difficult to analyze. One approach to handle space variables is to divide research areas into zones defining the UITS network, in a form suitable for processing. The demand for UITS services is valorized as highly qualitative, differentiated and derived. The task of UITS planning is to forecast and to manage the evolution of equilibrium points over time and space. Modeling these equilibrium points should assist in development and implementation of management strategies and investment programs. In establishing the equilibration between UITS demand and UITS supply i.e. planning it is essential to ensure an increase in transport efficiency, as it allows small and irregular flows to use shared facilities, a reduction in the importance of location as transport costs and quality of service become more uniform throughout Europe.

Possibility of Identification of Permanent Way and Train Undercarriage affecting Railway Traffic Safety

Antun Sertić; Tomislav Josip Mlinarić; Zvonko Kavran

This paper will try to present some of the causes which resultin vibrations during the train movement. Vibrations originateat the contact point between the undercarriage and thetracks. Theoretical analysis has been done of determining thespectral density of the acceleration process - vibrations of thenon-suspended and suspended locomotive mass, and then thevibrations of diesel electric locomotive type Hi 2061 weremeasured in different morphological conditions and geometricalstate of the track at different speeds. Based on the correlationand spectral analysis of the measured accelerations- vibrations, conclusions can be made about the condition of the trackand of the non-suspended mass of the locomotive. It should bestressed that determining the nature of vibrations is in the functionof determining the system reliability. If it refers to the trainand track in exploitation, the life time can be predicted, i.e. theoverhaul can be planned, and if it refers to the development, then we can use the results as the basis to determine modificationsand improvements. The efficiency of applying fuzzy logic in controlling the trainride with various input variables has been presented, where specialemphasis is put on the input variable which provides uswith the data on vibrations parameter. The analysis of vibrationsacting on the system, and the processing of the vibrationsparameter and the use of fuzzy logic provide us with the possibilityof controlling the train power plant.

The Efficiency Links on a Graph in Transportation Network

Zvonko Kavran; Husein Pašagić; Zdravko Toš

The access to a single vertex of the non-directional transportationnetwork graph can be defined in various ways, but ifwe want to classifY the vertices and at the same time avoid ambiguity, then each of them has to be assigned a certain number. The paper uses the method for detemzining the access to a singlevertex based on the description of the transportation networkusing the symmetrical matrix of incidence. By knowingthe matrix of incidence it is possible to detemzine the eigenvaluesi.e. eigenvectors, and their comparison detemzines the valuesfor single vertices. Apart from describing the method, theconcrete example of the tram network of the city of Zagreb hasbeen analysed. Based on the obtained analysis results, it is possibleto detemzine the efficiency of connecting single vertices inthe considered transportation network, i.e. to propose its improvements.
