With the progress of ubiquitous techniques and devices, such as RFID and sensors, etc., invisible computers are embedded in ones life and working environment, such as applicants, furniture, stationaries etc. Research on ubiquitous environment becomes very important. On the other hand, E-learning using WWW has been studying prosperously. Merging creatively the techniques in the two fields to construct a support environment of ubiquitous learning is demanded. Specially, the ubiquitous learning environment is suitable for outdoor learning to increase the students in middle school and high school for increasing their experiences and knowledge from real world, not only from text books. In this paper, we propose a new personalized ubiquitous learning support environment. In the ubiquitous learning environment, every learners behavior or learning habit can be sensed and observed precisely. By comparing them with learning instructional requirement set by an instructor, the learners situation can be grasped. Personalized support suitable for the learners situation can be provided to the learner. The proposed environment will be very useful for promoting ubiquitous learning.

With the progress of ubiquitous techniques and devices, such as RF-ID and sensors, etc., invisible computers are embedded in ones life and working environment, such as applicants, furniture, stationeries etc. A ubiquitous network environment provides personalized context-aware services to a user by making good use of ubiquitous techniques such as RF-IDs, sensors, actuators. The services can be considered as an extension of Internet services in a cyber world into the real physical world. As an application of ubiquitous network environment, an ubiquitous learning support environment can provide personalized learning support to a learner according to the learners learning situations, in not only Web-based learning environment but also in real world, through the books, text, pens, tables and other objects surrounding him/her. In this paper, we propose a ubiquitous learning method, which is based on principles of behavior science to provide suitable learning support by collecting the learners data regarding the learners learning behaviors, and provide guidance messages based on analysis of the data.

The research on Web-based learning is a hot research topic in recent years. But the personalized learning support is limited in most researches, because the human cognitive processes and educational psychology-based study method are not considered. Our previous work proposed a learning support system based on a study method known as SQ3R. The system provided a set of tools and a simple navigation function following the SQ3R. But the navigation in this system is not flexible enough to follow the substance of the SQ3R. In order to support and promote learners to learn as the SQ3R scheduled, in this paper, we give three types of navigations named as heuristic tool-using navigation, traffic-light progress navigation, and suggestive review navigation.

Realtime and interactive distance education support systems are increasingly being requested by society for educational activities. But it is necessary to systematically consider the architecture of those systems. RIDEE is a platform supporting realtime distance education activities over high-speed network. Its effectiveness was verified by experiments and a regular distance lecture course. This paper describes the design of RIDEE, its software implementation and its applications.

The web-based personalized intelligent tutoring systems(ITSs) has been applied to computer programming education. However, in terms of system computerization, there are issues in existing systems: 1. The information used to describe student individual learning status is non-enough detailed, badly-defined for objective analysis, and difficult to be handled by computers. 2. The collection of student information can not be handled by computer automatically. 3. The adaptive content recommendation for individual learning can still not beautomatically provided by computer. In order to solve thoseproblems, authors have proposed SKP-LS (SKP based LearningStatus) for the description of personalized learning status. InSKP-LS, the described student learning status is based onthe set of understanding of SKPs of individual student, here, SKP is minimum C programming learning unit. This articlehas improved SKP-LS for the system computerization of web-based personalized programming ITSs to give individual studentsadaptive learning contents to read or exercise based on theirlearning status. The conducted experiment has proved the designof the system is feasible and the personalized recommendationalgorithm is correct and reasonable.

C is a basic computer language widely used in both industry and education. Many computer programming beginners choose C as the first computer language to learn. But it is difficult for the beginners, especially for high-school students, to learn C programming because the learning supporting environment is not enough. This research proposes PROVIT(PROgramming VIsualization Tool) for Web, an e-Learning supporting environment for C programming education. PROVIT for Web has many features:(1) It can be used to write, run and check C programs without installing any IDE, (2) It especially can be used at lecture to show the execution of C program step by step, and (3) It can detect more run time error often seen in beginners program. Web PROVIT has been used in a C programming course in authors university. This paper reports the design, implementation and the result of experimental use of PROVIT for Web.

Recently, Slideshow presentations such as research talking, demonstrations and lectures are performed heavily. On the other hand, handwriting ones are rarely performed. However, handwriting still have advantages and slideshow also have limitations. In this paper, we investigated merits and demerits of slideshow and handwriting lectures and proposed new oral presentation method that has both merits and explain the system and interface. Finally, we explain a simple experimentation and results we held.

RIDEE-UIM (Understanding Information Management system for Real-time Interactive Distance Education Environment) has been proposed for giving understanding information of each participant to the lecturer during real time distance education activities. For each participant, RIDEE-UIM keeps his understanding values about each minimum unit of the materials offerd by the lecturer. The usefulness of RIDEE-UIM has been confirmed by experiments. This paper reports the implementation and the experiments of RIDEE-UIM.

Network camera is widely used in a lot of fields, such as remote monitoring, video conference. However, in almost network camera systems, the camera remote control is realized by using a remote controller or a personal computer with a crude user interface. This kind of control methods are not effective in the situation such as real time distance class where a smart operation is needed for the teacher. This article proposes a pseudo-surface based control method for network camera remote control. This method can improve the operativeness of the network camera control without using special devices other than a control computer. The effectiveness of this method was proven by a simulation system. In this article the principle of this method is described, and several examples of it are introduced.

Distributed resource allocation is a fundamental problem in construction of distributed systems. Though a lot of distributed algorithms have been developed for the problem, many of them are only designed to satisfy the desired quality of the requested resources, without considering acceptable range of the quality of the requested resources. In this paper we propose a new distributed algorithm employing a concession method, by which a process can transfer a reserved resource to another process, so that more processes can use the resources in the same time, to increase the efficiency and still keep the satisfaction for the quality of the resources in an acceptable range. We redefine the problem, and give the design and implementation of the algorithm in the paper.
