The scope of this paper was to evaluate the relationship between changes in eating behavior associated with dissatisfaction with body image, and the nutritional status of female university students of nutrition. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 175 female students of nutrition (ENUT/UFOP). The Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26) and Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) were applied and anthropometric measurements were taken. 21.7% of the students were found to be high risk in terms of eating disorders, and 13.7% declared dissatisfaction with their body image. The majority of students with positive results in the BSQ and EAT-26 tests were eutrophic. The students who were overweight, with elevated body fat percentage (% BF) and waist circumference (WC) had a 5-9 times greater risk of change in eating habits. There was a positive association between the anthropometric parameters with high scores in the EAT-26 and BSQ questionnaires. The future dietitians who are overweight, with increased body fat and waist circumference were more likely to be dissatisfied with their body image and develop eating disorders. The use of other anthropometric parameters, in addition to BMI, may prove useful in screening individuals susceptible to the emergence of excessive concerns with weight and diet.

OBJECTIVE: Evaluate cardiovascular risk factors, with emphasis on hypertension and adiposity, present in alcoholics abstinent or not abstinent. METHOD: This was a cross-sectional study with 65 alcoholic patients in treatment in CAPSad. The degree of alcohol dependence was assessed by SADD (Short Alcohol Dependence Data) and the use of other drugs by ASSIST (Alcohol Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test). We evaluated the biochemical and anthropometric profile users. RESULTS: The study included 42 men and 23 women. The majority of the participants (67.74%) presented severe alcohol dependence with alcohol use mainly associated with smoking (66.15%). The average waist circumference (WC) was significantly higher among abstinent compared to non-abstinent (AB: 88.15 ± 15.95 x NA: 81.04 ± 9.86, p = 0.03). Patients longer abstinent had higher overweight/obesity and abdominal adiposity (WC) than non-abstinent and recent abstinent with odds ratio of 5.25. The abstainers had odds ratios of 3.38 for% BF above average, regardless of time of abstinence. CONCLUSION: Abstinent alcoholic patients have more overweight/obesity, body (% BF) and abdominal (WC) adiposity than non-abstinent. Multidisciplinary care is important in the treatment of alcoholics with approach for cardiovascular risk factors, especially avoiding weight gain.

Objective As there is no information in the literature about alcohol consumption profile among sportsmen, the aim of this study was to evaluate the profile of alcohol consumption by gym goers associating with anthropometry and training intensity. Methods Were invited subjects bodybuilders for at least six months, aged between 20 and 40 years, of both sexes. Anthropometric measurements were taken and body composition. To assess alcohol consumption, we used the AUDIT questionnaire. The intensity of training was identified through a semi-structured questionnaire. Results 74.1% (n = 35) of participants reported having used alcohol. In addition, 19 volunteers (38.8%) had risk behavior for alcohol consumption (AUDIT ≥ 8). Considering the binge drinking, 32 volunteers (65.3%) consumed six or more drinks of alcohol at some time in the previous year, with no difference between sexes. Body adiposity was above the recommended values among those who reported binge drinking. There was no association between the intensity of physical training and binge drinking, nor between training intensity and risk behavior for alcohol consumption. Conclusion Most sportsmen showed drinking binge in not being associated with the intensity of training. This consumption is not consistent with your goals by attending gyms. Body adiposity was above the recommended values.

INTRODUCTION The contribution of diet and treatment planning in the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) has been recognized as having a significant clinical impact if introduced early. OBJECTIVE determine the levels of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, energy and energy density (ED) in an oral hospital diet prescribed to CKD patients, and to evaluate the adequacy of this diet with respect to dietary recommendations. METHODS Diets were collected in a Brazilian public hospital on two non-consecutive days of six different weeks. The carbohydrate, protein, and lipid (total, saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, linoleic, linolenic and trans fatty acids) contents were determined in a laboratory. The amount of energy and the ED of the diets were calculated using the correction factor Atware and by dividing the total energy of the diet by weight, respectively. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION About 14.3% of the diets produced for patients with CKD were analyzed. The average density of the diets was low (0.7 kcal/g). In terms of nutritional adequacy, the average lipid content (15%) and linolenic fatty acid content (0.4%) were below the recommendation, as was energy (23.4 kcal / kg / day). The average carbohydrate content (63.5%) and protein content (1.0 g/kg/day) exceeded the recommendations levels. CONCLUSION The oral hospital diet prepared for patients with CKD were considered unbalanced, and an unfavorable clinical treatment for these patients.

Introduction: birth weight is a determinant factor in the health of newborns. Factors related to health and maternal behaviors influence the birth conditions and, consequently, birth weight. Objectives: to determine the relationship between maternal characteristics and birth weight. Patients and methods: this was a longitudinal study performed in two stages including 87 women. In the first, pregnant women answered a questionnaire with socio-economic information, variables related to pregnancy, obstetric history, and 24 hours food recall. The second stage took place in the first postpartum month; nursing mothers were questioned through telephone contacts about their delivery characteristics, their newborn, and total weight gain during pregnancy. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the relationship between the pregnancy variables and birth weight. Results: the average consumption of iron, calcium, folic acid, and vitamin A were below the nutritional recommendations, except for vitamin C, which was appropriately consumed. After the logistic regression adjustments, the variables pre-pregnancy nutritional status (OR = 5.457; p = 0.012), start of prenatal care (OR = 1.509; p = 0.015), and density of dietary calcium (OR = 2.672; p = 0.048) remained associated with birth weight. Aims: To assess the level of satisfaction with body image in gym goers and its relation to the consumption of supplements. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with gym goers (bodybuilders), with at least six months of practice, of both sexes and aged between 20 and 40 years. The instruments used were: Silhouette Matching Task for the assessment of body image perception and a semi- structured questionnaire to identify the consumption of dietary supplements. Results: The study included 45 volunteers, 28 men and 17 women, with a mean age of 27.93±6.27 years. Thirty-two participants (71.1%) showed dissatisfaction with body image, being 19 (67.9%) among men and 13 (76.5%) among women. It was observed that those who consumed supplements had higher satisfaction with their body image than those who did not use these products. Satisfaction with body image was similar in individuals with different times of practicing bodybuilding. Conclusions: Even inserted in an environment based in aesthetic achievement and quality of life, most gym goers are dissatisfied with their body image. Those who use dietary supplements have less difference between perceived current and desired image, with higher satisfaction with their body image.
