This article discusses a descriptive-analytic study on research methodology education practices directed at nurse clinicians who work at a university hospital and aimed at acquiring scientific research competencies on the basis of discovery learning, tutorials and humanistic teaching strategies. Study participants were eighty-six nurses, 70 of whom concluded their projects. 28 of these resulted in scientific studies, most of which were experience reports, descriptive and exploratory investigations. According to the nurses, the program allowed them to acquire and apply their research know-how. They pointed out the lack of mastering scientific methodology and the limitations of administrative and work conditions at the institution as the main difficulties. Among the facilitators, they highlighted the importance of research to modify clinical practice, the publication of results and the collaboration for the maintenance of a research center. The study showed the need for a flexible planning of educational activities, permanent guidance and respect for the particularities of each nurse.

This study aims at translating and validating the content of the instrument Conditions of Work Effectiveness-Questionnaire-II CWEQ-II), developed by Laschinger, Finegan, Shamian and Wilk, modified from the original CWEQ for the Brazilian culture. Conclusao: o Checklist de Seguranca Cirurgica Pre e Pos-Operatorio e mais uma estrategia na promocao da seguranca do paciente, pois possibilita monitorar sinais e sintomas preditivos de complicacoes cirurgicas e deteccao precoce de eventos adversos.ABSTRACT Objective: to develop, evaluate and validate a surgical safety checklist for patients in the pre and postoperative periods in surgical hospitalization units. Method: methodological research carried out in a large public teaching hospital in the South of Brazil, with application of the principles of the Safe Surgery Saves Lives Programme of the World Health Organization. The checklist was applied to 16 nurses of 8 surgical units and submitted for validation by a group of eight experts using the Delphi method online. Results: the instrument was validated and it was achieved a mean score ≥1, level of agreement ≥75% and Cronbach’s alpha >0.90. The final version included 97 safety indicators organized into six categories: identification, preoperative, immediate postoperative, immediate postoperative, other surgical complications, and hospital discharge. Conclusion: the Surgical Safety Checklist in the Pre and Postoperative periods is another strategy to promote patient safety, as it allows the monitoring of predictive signs and symptoms of surgical complications and the early detection of adverse events.

Historicizing the development of the Brazilian Nursing Political-Professional Project (PPPEB), at the Brazilian Nursing Association – Parana Division (ABEn-PR), under the optical overview of the ex-presidents during the years 1980 and 2001, identifying future action perspectives. Data information was collected with interviews and documental research with seven ex-presidents. Concluding that the PPPEB directives, directed the researched management actions. The ex-presidents showed a sense of responsibility, commitment with the Union, with the association and also with the SUS users (Health Unique System). Within the difficulties, pointed low participation of the associated, also the Board Directors; low number of associates, financial instability, and others. Future perspectives suggest an increase of nursery adhesion at the ABEn, stimulated since the college, in order to consolidate the PPPEB. Descritpors: History of nursing; Professional practice; Nursing, societies.
