A novel pentasaccharide from immunostimulant oligosaccharide fraction of buffalo milk.

Rina Saksena; Desh Deepak; Anakshi Khare; Ragini Sahai; L.M. Tripathi; V. M. L. Srivastava

A processed oligosaccharide mixture of buffalo milk induced significant stimulation of antibody, delayed-type hypersensitivity response to sheep red blood cells in BALB/c mice. This also stimulated non-specific immune response of the animals measured in terms of macrophage migration index. A novel pentasaccharide has been isolated from the oligosaccharide containing fraction having immunostimulant activity of buffalo milk. This compound was isolated by a combination of gel filtration chromatography, silica gel column chromatography of derivatised oligosaccharides while the homogeneity was confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography. The results of structural analyses, i.e. proton nuclear magnetic resonance, fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, chemical transformations and degradations are consistent with the following structure: GlcNAcbeta(1-->3)Galbeta(1-->4)GlcNAcbeta(1-->3)Gal beta(1-->4)Glc

Three Novel Pregnane Glycosides from Leptadenia reticulata Wight and Arn.

Sanjay Srivastav; Desh Deepak; Anakshi Khare

Abstract The structure of three novel pregnane glycosides viz. Reticulin ( 1 ), Deniculatin ( 2 ) and Leptaculatin ( 3 ) isolated from Leptadenia reticulata (fam. Asclepiadaceae) were elucidated with modern physico-chemical methods and chemical transformations. ( 1 ), ( 2 ) and ( 3 ) were defined as calogenin-3-O- β-cymaropyranosyl-(1→4)-O-3-O-methyl-α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D-digitoxopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D-cymaropyranoside, calogenin-3-O-3-O- methyl-α-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D- digitoxopyranoside and calogenin-3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl- (1→4)-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-O-β-D- cymaropyranoside, respectively.

Quassinoids from Ailanthus excelsa

Bipin Chandra Joshi; Anuj Pandey; Ram Prakash Sharma; Anakshi Khare

Three quassinoids, 1, 2 and 3, 4-dihydro excelsin 3 were isolated from the stem bark of Ailanthus excelsa, along with five known quassinoids excelsin, glaucarubine, ailanthinone, glaucarubinone and glaucarubolone. The glaucarubolone has been isolated for the first time from this plant. The structural elucidation is based on the analysis of spectroscopic data.

C21 steroidal glycosides from Hemidesmus indicus.

Poonam Sigler; Rina Saksena; Desh Deepak; Anakshi Khare

Two novel pregnane glycosides, denicunine (1) and heminine (4), have been isolated from the dried stem of Hemidesmus indicus R.Br. (family: Asclepiadaceae). Chemical transformations and spectroscopic evidence viz: 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and FABMS are consistent with the structures calogenin 3-O-3-O-methyl-beta-D-fucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-O-beta-D-oleandropyranosi de and calogenin 3-O-beta-D-cymaropyranosyl-(1-->4)-O-beta-D-digitoxopyranoside+ ++, respectively.

Two pregnane ester glycosides from Pergularia pallida

Naveen K. Khare; Maheshwari P. Khare; Anakshi Khare

Abstract Two new pregnane ester glycosides designated as pallidine and pallidinine have been isolated from the dried twigs of Pergularia pallida . Chemical and spectroscopic evidences are consistent with the structure 12,20-di- O -benzoyl sarcostin-3- O -β- d -oleandroside and 12,20-di- O -benzoyl-sarcostin-3- O -β- d -cymaropyranosyl(1 → 4)-β- d -oleandropyranoside for pallidine and pallidinine respectively.

Cissogenin, a pregnane genin from Marsdenia tenacissima

Shobha Singhal; Maheshwari P. Khare; Anakshi Khare

Abstract A new polyhydroxy pregnane designated as cissogenin has been isolated from the seeds of Marsdenia tenacissima . Its structure has been established as 3β,11α,12β,14β,20 S -pentahydroxy-pregn-5-ene.

Antifungal activity of the stem bark of Ailanthus excelsa.

Bipin Chandra Joshi; Anuj Pandey; Leena Chaurasia; Mahesh Pal; Ram Prakash Sharma; Anakshi Khare

The methanol extract of stem barks of Alianthus excelsa was partitioned with chloroform. The chloroform extract showed fungistatic and fungicidal activity against Aspergillus niger, A. fumigatus, Penicillium frequentence, P. notatum and Botrytis cinerea.

Deveshwari P. Khare; Anakshi Khare; Maheshwari P. Khare

Abstract A new, nonreducing disaccharide, sarcobiose, has been isolated from the dried twigs of Sarcostemma brevistigma . On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence and identification of its hydrolysis product, its structure has been established as 3,4-anhydro-2,6-dideoxy-β- d - lyxo -hexopyranosyl 6-deoxy-3- O -methyl-β- d -allopyranoside.
