Este artigo situa a concepcao de sistema publico de ensino no quadro do pensamento politico de Rui Barbosa e do liberalismo republicano de Joao Kopke. Depois de apresentar as posicoes com que consideram a questao, o texto investiga os argumentos desenvolvidos na pratica parlamentar de Rui Barbosa e na carreira profissional de Joao Kopke, para compreender as relacoes que os dois autores mantiveram com os criterios de reforma da instrucao publica no seculo XIX.

A compreensão histórica do fracasso escolar no Brasil

This text, organized in three parts, discusses the way in which the idea of school failure in Brazil was approached. In the first part, the author addresses the conditions under which studies about school failure in Brazil were conducted, paying attention to the historical sense of its use as an analytical tool. The second part examines some of the material that was produced about this issue, in the form of research or translation into Portuguese, in order to problematize the most common record of its history. The third part proposes that the mobilization of the population for education, around the years 1970/1980 in Sao Paulo, is a relevant explanatory element. However, it lacks reflection on the elaboration of the notion of school failure as an analytical category in education.

Como lágrimas na chuva? O estudo da memória e a construção da memória educacional

Este artigo analisa as praticas preservacionistas do Centro de Memoria da Educacao da Faculdade de Educacao da Universidade Estadual de Campinas (CME/FE-Unicamp). O proposito do trabalho e duplo. Propoe-se, por um lado, explorar a memoria como tema de estudo da historiografia. E, por outro lado, analisar as transformacoes de proposito do CME/FE-Unicamp entre 2001 e 2015. Argumenta-se que, em sua configuracao historica especifica, o CME/FE-Unicamp pode oferecer uma via produtiva para os estudos da memoria educacional. Desse modo, o CME/FE-Unicamp sera apresentado como uma das instituicoes que contribui para pensar alguns dos dilemas da relacao entre memoria e educacao.

La repetición y los servicios escolares de la capital federal en la década de 1930

This article discusses the paths of school services of the Department of Education of the Federal District from 1931 to 1935 based on the statistical results of school performance. This raises the issue of the production of official statistics to understand the organization of the Census, Registration and frequency services, in the School Division and Statistics and Compulsory School, and Measurement and School Efficiency, in the Educational Research Division, and also the strategies for curb dropout and repetition. The analysis of the documentation shows that the Department of Education of the Federal District projects itself as a strategic instrument of control of the school population.This article discusses the paths of school services of the Department of Education of the Federal District from 1931 to 1935 based on the statistical results of school performance. ARAUTOS DO IMPROVÁVEL, PIONEIROS DA RADIOFONIA E DA CINEMATOGRAFIA EDUCACIONAL NO BRASIL (1920-1930)

This article has as its theme the processes of introduction of radio and cinematography in Brazil during the decades of 1920 and 1930, seen as the result of an intellectual ferment that saw in these media the possibility of freeing our people, dispersed over the immensity of the national territory, from the legendary explanations and from ignorance. In this sense, the text presents an analysis of the pioneering role played by these intellectuals, the discussion they led about the purpose of radio and cinema as well as the strategies employed so that these means would have an exclusively educational application. In particular, this article discusses the main fronts of legitimation for the growing interference of the State in the fields of broadcasting, cinema and education.

The main purpose of this paper is to analyze how Carneiro Leao and Fernando de Azevedo managed the Directorate of Public Instruction of the Federal District. It discusses the idea that the reforms of school education in the city of Rio de Janeiro were not exactly the result of institutional arrangements defined. For this reason, the research effort goes toward understand something of what meant driving public education capital of the Brazil during that time. The focus of discussion is the way public education in the Federal District was administered in 1920’ years.
