Morin, Giroux e Pauchant (2001) researched professional recognition identification practices among Health and Social Services’ executives from Quebec, CA. Interviewees reported a lack of recognition by the population, partially influenced by midia content, which caused demotivation and contributed to their burn out and loss of meaning of work. Upon this, a study was carried on to identify the image built by the 10 most important newspapers in this province between 1993-2003. The qualitative method applied was supported by corpus design and content analysis. Results indicate that newspapers presented executives as victims, resources and claimers. Finally, we proposed brief actions that can be taken in order to transform newspapers in positive meaning co-producers for executives.

One of the relevant issues in the field of studies into not-for-profit organizations is to understand the singular characteristics of this organizational phenomenon. In this work we have turned to the basis of the Structuration Theory for analyzing such organizations. We propose that its contribution to the advance of knowledge in this field is its use of the concept of structural processes, prepared from work originally done by British sociologist, Anthony Giddens. The conceptual framework identifi es and analyses the ideas contained in the main theoretical perspectives found in academic works on Social Economics and not-for-profit organizations (NPO). This work makes a double contribution: by means of a case study, it offers empirical experience that takes a structuration analytical approach, and moves forward the discussion on singular characteristics of not-for-profit organizations as an organizational phenomenon, which increased during the last two decades of the XXth century. The conceptof structuration processes allows for the analysis of organizational paradoxes and conflicts, taking the structure not as a static object that definesthe restrictions to action or limits the scope of authority, but as an abstraction that reveals how the rules and resources of a social system relate with each other in a process defined by Giddens as the duality of structure.

The original purpose of this study was to conduct an exploratory analysis of the meaning of work to nursing professionals, comparing meanings by hierarchical level (non-degree and college-degreed levels) and by characteristics of the work environment. We applied a structured questionnaire containing scales for the meaning of work, affective commitment, and work stress. Results were treated with descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, correlation analysis, and mean comparison, and confirmed that hierarchical level and work environment define differences in the perception of work meaning and related constructs. Since our field work demanded long hours of permanence in hospitals, the study was enriched with observations and conversations. This combination of methods allowed expanding the knowledge about the factors that elicit experiencing the meaning of work in nursing. Meaning can emerge from factors such as increase in employability, social distinction, work-family harmonization, and the nature of the relationship with managers and leaders. Loss of meaning can cause a drop in productivity and be associated with resistance behaviors or even retaliatory behaviors in the form of absenteeism and changing jobs. The original purpose of this study was to conduct an exploratory analysis of the meaning of work to nursing professionals, comparing meanings by hierarchical level (non-degree and college-degreed levels) and by characteristics of the work environment. The aim of this study was to analyze how large companies influence their suppliers, in this case Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), in favor of adopting social and environmental responsibility practices. It was used for this purpose the perspective of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that, although lacks a consistent theoretical unit, was more appropriate to the case. The relevance of the study was justified by the limited number of studies on CSR on SMEs and the influence that stakeholders - in this particular case the concept was used in the sense of interested groups - have on this relationship. The study was conducted within the framework of the Tear Program - Weaving Sustainable Networks - that aimed to mobilize, through large companies (or anchors), the adoption of social and environmental responsibility practices management for its suppliers. The methodology of multiple cases study was used with the purpose of considering such impacts through three anchors companies and six SMEs. According to results, it can be seen that the influence of stakeholders stressed the importance and accelerate the adoption of CSR practices but lacks the strength to ensure an increase in performance, competitiveness and market opportunities. This finding is contrary to the initial objective of the Tear Program, as was nailed to SMEs by its organizers.
