Block Turbo Coding in OFDM-based HIPERLAN/2 Systems

Future local area networks operating in the 5 GHz frequency band will allow wireless, broadband access to a wide range of services supported by a variety of core networks world-wide. The harmonised radio transmission technique under consideration is based on a multicarrier scheme in conjunction with forward error correction based on convolutional codes, whereas the application of advanced coding schemes such as turbo codes are not precluded in the second phase of the standardisation process. This paper presents corresponding results regarding the applicability of two-dimensional block turbo codes in the case of a multicarrier-based wireless access system.
