The requirements towards packaging and articles intended to come into contact with food are systematically growing. Due to the growing consumer interest in consumption of fresh products with extended shelf life and controlled quality, manufacturers have to provide modern and safe packaging. It is a challenge for the food packaging industry and also acts as a driving force for the development of new and improved concepts of technology packaging. It is in order to meet these needs that active packaging can be applied. This article presents a new generation of packaging, which allows to maintain and even improve the quality of the packaged product, which is an essential advantage particularly in the food industry. It is to this end that the role and the application of active packaging were discussed. Among the solutions belonging to the active packaging, there are oxygen and moisture scavengers, ethylene regulators, and antimicrobial packaging. Active packaging is an excellent solution for a wide range of applications in the food industry. The most important advantage resulting from their use is reduction in loss of food products due to extension of their shelf life. Active systems are the future direction for development of food packaging and their commercial success should be expected in the coming years. It will undoubtedly result from constantly improved technologies of their production and the knowledge about mechanisms of their functioning and the effectiveness of their operation in ensuring food safety accumulated by both producers and consumers over time.

Anetta Barska

Summary In this article, the author presents the results of her own surveys concerning attitudes of young consumers - living in the border areas of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany - towards innovation on the market of food products. Innovative food is positively accepted by the young consumers, although it should be noted that large group of consumers are driven by the habits, especially Polish and Czech consumers. The process of diffusion of innovations on the food market among young consumers depends on the country they live in, gender (women considerably faster accept innovations) but is not determined by high incomes. Streszczenie W niniejszym opracowaniu autorka prezentuje wyniki własnych badań ankietowych dotyczących postaw młodych konsumentów - zamieszkujących tereny przygraniczne Polski, Czech, Słowacji i Niemiec - wobec innowacji na rynku produktów żywnościowych.

Anetta Barska; Joanna Wyrwa

The paper discusses the essence and the use of active and intelligent packaging in the food industry. It presents the results of a survey whose aim was to determine the knowledge and attitudes of consumers towards this type of packaging. The survey was conducted on a sample of 372 respondents – inhabitants of the Lubuskie Voivodeship. The use of active and intelligent packaging is related to the growing consumer interest in high quality food and new consumer preferences which influence the changes in the approach to food packaging. The analysis of the survey results showed that although there are new solutions for active and intelligent packaging appearing on the market, the state of knowledge on them among the inhabitants of the Lubuskie Region is insufficient.

Anetta Barska; Janina Jędrzejczak-Gas

Abstract The aim of this article is to present the essence of a functional area as a new tool of the EU regional policy and the course of designing an integrated approach to the development of the functional area. The study is a case study and relates to the methodical process of creating a development concept for the Functional Area of Oder Communes (FAOC). Their development requires integrated development planning that provides benefits both in the social and economic dimension. The study presents the new paradigm of the local development in the context of the National Spatial Development Concept 2030. The study presents the theoretical and practical basis for creating a concept for integrated development of a functional area.
