Realization of low power measurement system in the range of −60 dBm – −120 dBm up to 26.5 GHz

Murat Celep; Cem Hayırlı; Senel Yaran; Handan Sakarya; Arif Dolma

This paper describes measurement system established for microwave low power measurement at TüBITAK UME. System was carried through the superheterodyne type receiver. The system was realized between 100 MHz to 26.5 GHz frequency range. Also error model of the system was analyzed. The output power of a signal source was measured between -60 dBm to -120 dBm. The expanded uncertainty (k=2) of the measured power is between 0.19 dB to 3.04 dB in all frequency range.

Free Space Optic /Radio Frequency (FSO/RF) hybrid communication systems and various applications

Arif Dolma; Kutlu Karayahşi

In this paper, FSO/RF(Free Space Optic/ Radio Frequency) hybrid systems in which free space optic (FSO) and radio frequency (RF) systems are used together have been investigated. After considering the fundemental principles of FSO/RF communication systems, various applications have been investigated and then these applications have been discussed.

Simulation aided design of optical fiber grid sensors

Arif Dolma; Ceyhum Pehlivan

Accurate and Rapid measuring of physical parameters like strain, temperature and pressure has great importance to smart structure, system control and manufacturing process monitoring. Hence, various temperature, strain and pressure measurement Technologies have been developed. In practice, almost all these Technologies are electrically based. Necessities of our century require monitoring of paper parameters at multiple locations at the same time. So, traditional sensors should be rearranged according to that request. In this research, quasi distributed strain and temperature sensing systems with high resolution, low cost, easy fabrication and robustness that can be operated reliably in harsh environment or extended structures and Fiber Bragg Gratings (FBG) which is one of the best techniques of these systems are introduced for that increasing demands.

Indoor free-space optical communication systems design with simulation

Arif Dolma; Sinem Koseoglu; Erman Ates

Optical wireless communication is a kind of telecommunication which transmits information through air with wavelengths in nanometers between optical transmitters and optical receivers. This kind of communication which has attracted scientists and producers lately, has been showing itself in several fields like satellite-to-satellite communications and military applications and introduced a new research to the communication world. In this study, the basic subjects related to wireless optical communication has been taken in hand and the hardware and the software which is essential for any wireless optical system achievement has been examined. Indoor free-space optical system has been described and an example algorithm and MATLAB code that would be used in this system has been improved.

Connection guidence and wave length assignment of optical systems using an intelligent control plane

Kutlu Karayahşi; Arif Dolma; Erman Ates; Nilay Çatal

In this work, the risks that optical systems face have been told. Then, it has been told that the proper solution to these risks is using intelligent control planes. After pointing the advantages, execution advancements and the property of reducing the costs; the standards produced to help different vendors to work together have been told. Then, how an intelligent control plane works in a case where an undersea cable line is cut has been told. And an agreement of Turk Telekom to use an intelligent control plane has been mentioned .After that, some information about connection guidance and wave length assignment have been given. In the last chapter, under the given information, the ideas about intelligent control planes have been discussed.

Indoor free space optical communication network design via virtual base stations

Arif Dolma; Erman Ates

Interest on studies for improving free space optical communications has been increasing because of radio frequenciespsila disadvantages such as fullness and electromagnetic interference. In this paper an optical method is introduced and the design of a suitable spherical antenna is examined. And the communication signal quality is observed for a simulation room.
