There have been several requests to introduce environmental discussions within the program content of undergraduate courses in Business Administration. Environmental education is seen as an indispensable element when it comes to transforming student awareness. The objective of the study was to characterize the environmental dimension of the behavior of future managers and explore the conditions, challenges and prospects for broadening social and environmental training in the teaching projects of the business school that was analyzed. Questionnaires were used for measuring environmental behavior in a sample of 341 Business Administration undergraduate students from a higher education institution in Sao Paulo who received environmental education throughout their course. A factor model was constructed and data were agglomerated using cluster analysis. The analysis revealed that the training and advance of environmental awareness represent major challenges for business schools, demanding that Business Administration teaching methods be profoundly reconsidered. There have been several requests to introduce environmental discussions within the program content of undergraduate courses in Business Administration.

Men and women have been historically embedded in differentiated social networks. The female trajectory has been conditioned by the presence of strong ties. Such circumstances may have led to peculiar repercussions on womens roles as entrepreneurs. Despite their relevance, studies piecing together gender, entrepreneurship, embeddedness and social networks are relatively new. This paper, drawing on both theoretical insights and quantitative empirical research, attempts to shed light on the phenomenon of female entrepreneurship as it stands against male entrepreneurship. The results suggest that both women and men are embedded in different social networks, and that each of them use their ties in a different way, in so far as their businesses creation goes. Women are relatively more prone to using closer ties to gather information and support. This article offers four contributions. First, at the theoretical level, some new insights offered on the universality versus peculiarities of entrepreneurial behavior. Contributions are also offered, on methodological grounds, including the use of some indicators of embeddedness to analyze and compare the two entrepreneurial groups. At the practical level, by revealing some little-known aspects of the feminine entrepreneurial dynamic, it provides ideas for the formulation of public policy.

The international growth of a social business: a case study

Anita Maria Moura; Graziella Comini; Armindo dos Santos de Sousa Teodósio

In developing countries, initiatives have often been undertaken in order to fight social and environmental problems. Since the 1990s, an increase can be seen in corporate social responsibility actions, as well as increasingly strong activities by civil society organizations. Tweenty years ago, companies and civil society organizations stood wide apart from each other, with often conflicting agendas and resistance to mutual collaboration. This reality has changed significantly. Besides the phenomenon of cross-sector partnerships, we can also observe the expansion of a particular organization type, i.e., the social business, which combines two objectives that were previously seen as incompatible: financial sustainability and the generation of social value. This article aims to discuss the factors that influence the results of a social business operating in three countries: Botswana, Brazil and Jordan. The results allow understanding the challenges involved in constructing social businesses in developing countries as well as a better understanding of the very nature of those businesses, considering the social realities where they operate.

Tri-sector partnerships in social entrepreneurship: discourse and practice of the actors from the circles of action and reflection

This article aims to discuss the participation of Brazilian civil society organizations within the scope of development cooperation. This is a theoretical article that seeks to problematize the processes of development cooperation and to build an analytical framework able to cope with the participation of new actors, of a non-governmental nature, in the relationships between developing countries. This is commonly referred to as South-South Cooperation and the article also looks at the implications of this in terms of extending the rights of extremely vulnerable communities. The article draws on literary sources from many different fields of knowledge, especially international relations, political sociology and social management. The idea is to understand the possibilities, prospects and pitfalls that are involved in the processes of development cooperation, and which are shaped by both the search for greater horizontality among nations and by the participation of new actors, especially those from civil society. This article aims to discuss the participation of Brazilian civil society organizations within the scope of development cooperation.
