Hsin-Pin Fu; Tien-Hsiang Chang; Arthur Lin; Zi-Jun Du; Kuei-Ying Hsu

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to comprehensively examine the factors that influence the adoption of radio frequency identification (RFID) in the logistics industry in Taiwan, and to objectively identify the key factors (KFs) for successful adoption. Design/methodology/approach – First, the factors were collected from a review of the literature, and then arranged in a three-layer hierarchical table. The fuzzy analytic hierarchical process (FAHP) was then used to determine the weighting of each factor, based on the opinions of various logistics professionals. The acceptable advantage concept of VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) was then used to identify the KFs. Findings – Nine important factors were identified from the total of eighteen factors, with a total accumulative weight of 64.68 percent, and from these, four KFs were determined: meeting the demands of clients, sharing real-time information, creating advantages in overall delivery, and reducing operational errors....

Improving the effectiveness of experiential decisions by recommendation systems

Arthur Lin; Chien-Lung Hsu; Eldon Y. Li

Abstract Providing experience-oriented offerings through e-commerce is an issue increasing critical in the growing commoditization of e-commercial services. The high accuracy of predictions rendered by Recommendation System (RS) technologies has strengthened the opportunities for experience-oriented offerings, making RS application an effective way of assisting consumers in online decision-making. This study proposes a RS for movie lovers using neural networks in collaborative filtering systems for consumers’ experiential decisions. The experimental results reveal that it not only improves the accuracy of predicting movie ratings but also increases data transfer rates and provides richer user experiences.

Do psychological contract and organizational citizenship behavior affect organizational performance in non-profit organizations?

Tracy Tsui-Hsu Tsai; Arthur Lin

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to survey volunteers and full-time employees in international non-profit organizations (NPOs) and explore the relationships among psychological contract (PC), organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and organizational performance (OP). Design/methodology/approach – Using 573 usable responses, a linear structural equation model (SEM) was developed to examine the relationships. Findings – The results demonstrate significant positive relationships between PC and OCB, OCB and OP and PC and OP. They also show the mediating effect of OCB on the relationship between PC and OP. Research limitations/implications – Beside mediation effect, OCB and other variables might exert significant moderation effect on the relationship between PC and OP. Companies could conduct longitudinal studies to examine the changes of PC and OCB impacts on OP. Practical implications – Companies pursuing Chinese market should cooperate with NPOs in multiple ways including marketing for philanthropi...

An architecture for an Internet Marketing Multi-Agent System using AUML

Kai-Yi Chin; Jim-Min Lin; Zeng-Wei Hong; Chih-Wei Lin; Arthur Lin

An Internet Marketing Multi-Agent System (IMMAS) has been proposed to enhance traditional Internet marketing mechanism through the mobile agent technique [3]. A critical design of the proposed system is the introduction of two software agents, namely a Sales agent and a Personal agent, for performing the delegated jobs of the designated marketing activity helping customers to assist his own job administration respectively. This paper is aimed to report the architecture for IMMAS represented in form of Agent UML (AUML) specifications. The strength of a multi-agent architecture is highly dependent on the coordination of multiple distributed software components. Therefore, the description of IMMAS architecture will be focused on the coordination and interaction patterns among multiple agents in a three-layer presentation. This architecture could be helpful to and used as the reference for later software engineers in agent-based software systems.

The effect of philanthropic marketing on brand resonance and consumer satisfaction of CSR performance

Tracy Tsui-Hsu Tsai; Arthur Lin; Eldon Y. Li

Purpose – This study aims to investigate whether engagement in philanthropic marketing after the 311 Japan earthquake crises had a positive effect on brand resonance and consumer satisfaction of CSR performance for Taiwanese companies. Additionally, the particular phenomenon of media self-regulation was integrated to explore the consolidated impact of philanthropic marketing, media self-regulation and brand resonance on consumer satisfaction of CSR performance. Design/methodology/approach – The study used survey method to collect required data. The subjects of the study were 516 adults who were aware of the 311 Japan earthquake crises. Of the 476 survey questionnaires collected, 450 were identified as usable. Findings – The results show that the constructs were highly positively correlated, meaning that post-disaster corporate philanthropic marketing can enhance brand resonance and consumer satisfaction of CSR performance. Media self-regulation was found to have a significant influence on philanthropic ma...

A review of the literature identifying the critical success factors (CSFs) of project execution revealed two research gaps: a too subjective selection of CSFs rather than an objective selection and too many critical factors, resulting in doubts about their criticality. To overcome these two research gaps, this study proposed a hybrid method that uses the Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) to obtain weightings of factors and ranks their importance. The meaning of criticality, in combination with the concept of acceptable advantage of VlseKriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR), was then used to objectively identify the CSFs of project execution, using the environmental consultancy service industry in Taiwan as an example. Finally, six CSFs were found and five management implications were identified, and these findings can serve as a valuable reference for project execution in the environmental consultancy service industry. This combined method can also be used to identify the CSFs of project execution in other fields.

Applying FSE to enhance customer value by improving store image in different consumer groups

Hsin-Pin Fu; Tien-Hsiang Chang; Arthur Lin; Sheng-Wei Lin; Chao-Han Chien

Retailers can construct effective marketing strategies to improve their store image and enhance customer value if they understand the nature and the impact of the quantitative data and the qualitative information regarding the factors affecting this image. Most previous studies have used a qualitative or a quantitative method, rather than both. Fuzzy synthetic evaluation (FSE) is a tool for resolving qualitative and quantitative issues. This paper uses FSE in combination with the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to help companies better understand the quantitative data (the weights of the factors that affect store image) and the qualitative information (the segmentation of consumer groups). By using this quantitative data and qualitative information, retailers can learn pertinent information about each consumer group. Thereby, they can allocate the resources of their enterprises to better improve their store image according to the needs of different customer groups at lower costs and with greater efficiency. The findings and implications found in a case study are discussed.

Factors for the introduction of RFID on the distribution industry

Hsin-Pin Fu; Z. J. Du; Arthur Lin; Y. L. Lin

The purpose of this paper is to comprehensively understand the important level of each factor and objectively select the key factors that influence the adoption of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) by the distribution industry (including logistics and retailing) in Taiwan. The fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is utilized to find the weighting of each factor, based on opinions of RFID alliance members, including the distribution industry and RFID solution providers. It is hoped that the research results can provide a reference for the distribution industry in terms of their focus on better allocation of resources to form appropriate strategies, which will improve success rates, when adopting RFID.
