Developing embodied agent-based user interface by using interactive drama markup language

Zeng-Wei Hong; Kai-Yi Chin; Jim-Min Lin

Current researches of ECA-based user interfaces focus on how to script the behaviors of ECAs to resemble a real person, such as VHML, CML, AML, MPML, TelMeA, etc. They propose high-level scripting languages and development kits to support users scripting ECA-based user interfaces. However, we think that a scripting language must be concerned about creating ECA animation and user interfaces of the underlying software application. In other words, an appropriate ECA markup language should enable users to create avatars and represent layout of typical user interfaces with simple widgets, for example buttons. In this paper, we propose a XML-based interactive drama markup language (IDML) that allows users to create ECA-based user interfaces and GUIs with a set of buttons. Furthermore, IDML uses the concept of Interactive drama to create branching narrations that enables the audience to affect an ECAs behaviors when the audience interacts with the ECA, and enables the ECA will present different dialogue according to the audiences action. In order to give the general users relief from learning XML, we design an authoring tool to provide visual windows consisted of GUI widgets to facilitate generations of interactive dramas in IDML.

An architecture for an Internet Marketing Multi-Agent System using AUML

Kai-Yi Chin; Jim-Min Lin; Zeng-Wei Hong; Chih-Wei Lin; Arthur Lin

An Internet Marketing Multi-Agent System (IMMAS) has been proposed to enhance traditional Internet marketing mechanism through the mobile agent technique [3]. A critical design of the proposed system is the introduction of two software agents, namely a Sales agent and a Personal agent, for performing the delegated jobs of the designated marketing activity helping customers to assist his own job administration respectively. This paper is aimed to report the architecture for IMMAS represented in form of Agent UML (AUML) specifications. The strength of a multi-agent architecture is highly dependent on the coordination of multiple distributed software components. Therefore, the description of IMMAS architecture will be focused on the coordination and interaction patterns among multiple agents in a three-layer presentation. This architecture could be helpful to and used as the reference for later software engineers in agent-based software systems.

An agent-based Internet advertising system by using PULL mechanism

Zeng-Wei Hong; Kai-Yi Chin; Yi Ping Liou; Jim-Min Lin; Chin-Hsien Wu

This study is aimed to investigate how to apply PULL mechanism in an agent-based Internet advertising system. In this pull mechanism, consumers are able to actively announce requirements. Therefore, advertisers are easier to find and analyze potential consumers for designing appropriate ads. This study also proposes an agent-based Internet advertising system which consists of multiple software agents to accomplish this pull mechanism. There are personal agents for consumers to release requirements and request promotion of advertisers actively. To attract consumers, this system supports advertisers to script animated conversational agents for expressively interacting with consumers. In order to demonstrate this study, an experimental system, e-novel advisor system, is also described in this paper.
