Vegetative growth and yield of eggplant under different soil water tensions.

Os efeitos de diferentes tensoes de agua no solo aplicadas em dois estadios fenologicos da cultura da berinjela (Solanum melongena L.) foram avaliados por meio de dois experimentos, ambos conduzidos em um delineamento experimental inteiramente casualizado com 5 tratamentos e 6 repeticoes. Os tratamentos se constituiram de 5 diferentes tensoes de agua no solo: 15, 30, 45, 60 e 80 kPa. Os resultados permitiram concluir que efeitos significativos foram encontrados para todas as variaveis analisadas apenas quando os tratamentos foram aplicados na fase de formacao de frutos/colheita, demonstrando que esta fase e mais sensivel a escassez de agua no solo, prejudicando o desenvolvimento da cultura; obtiveram-se maiores producoes com irrigacao realizada sob a tensao de 15 kPa.

Effect of different levels of water deficit on rapeseed (Brassica napus L.) crop

Os efeitos de diferentes niveis de deficit hidrico, aplicados durante o desenvolvimento da canola, foram avaliados por meio de um experimento conduzido em vasos de metal no interior de uma casa de vegetacao, no Departamento de Engenharia Agricola, da Universidade de Kassel, Alemanha. Foi utilizado um delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com a cultivar Ability (Summer Rape), e tres niveis de deficit de agua, 0%, 30%, 60% da evapotranspiracao da cultura, totalizando tres tratamentos com 20 repeticoes. O manejo da irrigacao foi realizado por meio do balanco hidrico diario, em que ET = I - D, onde ET e evapotranspiracao, I e irrigacao, D e drenagem. Foram realizadas semanalmente as seguintes avaliacoes: diâmetro do caule (mm), altura da planta (cm), numero de folhas, numero de ramos e numero de siliquas. No final do experimento, foram avaliadas a materia verde total (g planta-1) e materia seca total (g planta-1), produtividade de graos (g planta-1), alem do teor de proteina (%) e de oleo (%) dos graos. Os dados foram submetidos a analise de variância, sendo o efeito dos tratamentos estudado por meio de analise de regressao. Os resultados mostraram diferencas significativas entre os tratamentos para as variaveis analisadas, exceto para a altura das plantas e teor de proteina dos graos, pelo teste F a 5% de probabilidade. O fator de resposta ky, indicador da sensibilidade da cultura ao deficit hidrico, foi menor que um para todos os parâmetros estudados. A produtividade de graos apresentou a maior sensibilidade ao deficit hidrico.

Optimising Water Use in Irrigated Canola Areas in Brazil

Irrigation management, which aims to determine time and amount of irrigation, was investigated in rapeseed crop in two trials, both carried out in a totally randomized experimental design. The first trial, experiment 1, comprised 4 treatments and 4 repetitions, totalising 16 experimental plots. Different water tensions were applied on soil: 20, 40, 80, and 120 kPa. The second trial, experiment 2, comprised 5 treatments and 4 repetitions with application of 5 different irrigation depths: 50; 75; 100; 125, and 150% of relocation depth up to field capacity. According to the variance analysis, experiment 1 showed that different water tensions on soil affected the number of branches, number of pods and yield. The greatest yield was obtained with irrigation at 20 kPa tension, by F test 5% probability. Experiment 2 showed no significant differences between treatments due to precipitations.

Effect of different levels of water deficit on yield parameters of rapeseed crop

Effects of different levels of water deficit applied during rapeseed crop development were assessed in a trial carried out in greenhouse at the Department of Agricultural Engineering of Kassel University, Germany, in randomized block design, with one cultivar (Ability Summer Rape) and three levels of water deficit (0, 30, 60% of evapotranspiration) totalizing three treatments with 20 repetitions. The following assessments were carried out on a weekly basis: stalk diameter; plant height; number of leaves; number of branches; flower length and number of pods. At the end of the experiment we assessed total green matter; total dry matter, grain yield; grain protein rate; and grain oil rate. Subsequently, data were submitted to analysis of variance, and the effect of treatments was assessed by regression analysis. Results showed significant differences among treatments for all variables, except for plant height and grain protein rate. Factor of response ky, which indicates crop sensitivity to water deficit, was lower than 1 for all variables assessed. Grain yield showed the highest sensitivity to water deficit.
