Objective: Understand the meaning, in hospital work, of hierarchical structures present in the organizational culture of Brazilian public hospitals. Methods: The corpus of research was originated in four theses and six dissertations, and was organized, analyzed and interpreted from the perspective of symbolic anthropology interpretation. Results: Hospitals copied the professional mechanistic bureaucracy and hierarchies, from these structures, produce meanings that indicate a fragmentation of relationships, professional disputes and separations, as well as conflicts and subversive behavior at work. Conclusion: The hierarchies in each of the bureaucracies created several clashes that disrupt the workers and their work processes. Reorientation strategies and awareness of the hierarchical boundaries should be studied so that the work is optimized. The objective of this exploratory-descriptive study was to identify the beliefs, effects and practices that permeate womens self-care during puerperium. The participants were fifteen puerperal women from Rio Grande/RS. Data collection was performed in September and October of 2010 using semi-structured interviews, performed between fifteen and thirty days postpartum. Thematic analysis was used. Two categories emerged regarding self-care during puerperium, which was performed based on the family guidance received at home. One referred to restrictions, or activities that should be avoided to prevent harm; the other involved encouragement, i.e., practices that promoted benefits to the puerperal woman or newborn. This study shows the importance of professionals being aware of the quarantine period, as it is a cultural heritage that remains in effect today. In conclusion, common knowledge is highly valued by these women, and despite the need for scientific evidence supporting such knowledge it was not a trigger for problems in either the mothers or infants in this study. This study aimed to investigate the use of female condom (PF) by sex workers registered with the Municipal Health Department of the municipality of Rio Grande / RS. It is a descriptive and quantitative study, conducted in 2009 with 19 women, through the application of an individual questionnaire containing questions about sexual habits and use of FP. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the FURG in opinion No. 53/2009. The results found that 47.30% reported that they check their health status regularly, 58% already had contact with this type of condom in the health service and 73.55% claim never to have acquired an STI. Regarding sexual practices 68.45% reported using condoms only to prevent STDs, women who are already using PF practised vaginal sex and 47.30% do not see the advantages and 52.65% do not see the disadvantages of using the PF. It is important then that the health facilities, professionals including nurses, should be prepared to deal with health issues and counsel these women about the importance of condom use for health maintenance.

The study aimed to identify causes of absenteeism in referral consultations for medical specialties. A case study was conducted with subjects assisted by the Family Health Strategy of a municipality in southern Brazil, who in 2013 did not attend scheduled appointments. The referral documentation issued by the Basic Health Unit and the Appointment Center and interviews with users were sources of evidence. The data found were categorized and analyzed using the discursive textual analysis technique, where the outlined categories were: Waiting time for consultation; Notice of the date and time of the consultation; Reason for not attending. It was concluded that the documents to be sent to the Marking Center require careful attention. The monitoring of Community Health Agents to users before and after consultation is an action to reduce absenteeism. The solution requires user awareness.
