Novel composite hydrogels, poly(acrylamide)-sepiolite (PAS), poly(acrylamide/acrylic acid)-sepiolite (PAAS), and poly(acrylamide/itaconic acid)-sepiolite (PAIS) were prepared and used for the immobilization of invertase. The parameters of equilibrium swelling, diffusional exponent, and diffusion coefficient of these hydrogels were calculated from swelling experiments. Invertase was immobilized onto PAS, PAAS, and PAIS and immobilized invertases (PASI, PAASI, and PAISI) were prepared. Optimum pH values for free invertase, PASI, PAASI, and PAISI are found to be 5, 5.5, 4.5, and 6, respectively, and the optimum temperatures were 30, 50, 50, and 35 degrees C for free invertase PASI, PAASI, and PAISI. It was found that K(m) values of free invertase, PASI, PAASI, and PAISI were 11.3, 41.0, 94.5, and 56.0 mM, respectively. V(max) values were 2 mumol/min for free invertase, 8.10 mumol/min for PASI, 1.30 mumol/min for PAASI, and 0.42 mumol/min for PAISI, respectively. The invertase immobilized hydrogels showed excellent, temperature, storage, and operational stability.

This work reports on the synthesis and characterization of phthalocyanines (M = Cu(II) (2), Zn(II) (3) In(III) (4) and Co(II) (5)) peripherally tetra-substituted with 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)propan-1-one. Confirmation of the synthesized phthalocyanine structures are performed with a combination of elemental analysis, FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-vis and MALDI-MS SEM and spectral data. Their aggregation properties were examined in THF by UV-vis. Spectral and photophysical (fluorescence quantum yield) properties of complexes (2–4) were reported in THF (tetrahydrofuran). These results suggest that the metal in the core of the phthalocyanine plays an important role in the fluorescence quantum yields ΦF of the synthesized complexes (2–4). Also, the anticancer activities of complexes were studied on MCF-7, MG63, and L929 cell lines. Finally, all synthesized phthalocyanines were investigated by quantum chemical studies. Chemical reactivity parameters such as EHOMO, ELUMO, ΔE (HOMO–LUMO energy gap) were calculated by Gaussian software.

A series of novel phenylurea containing 2‐benzoylindan‐1‐one derivatives 3a – 3j were synthesized from the reaction of phenylurea‐substituted acetophenones 1a – 1j with phthalaldehyde 2 under mild reaction conditions in good yields. All synthesized compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods. The obtained compounds (3a – 3j) were evaluated for anticancer activity against HeLa and C6 cell lines. Antiproliferative activity was determined by the BrdU proliferation ELISA assay, 3f and 3g were found to be most active compounds. The compounds were also screened for antimicrobial activity and all compounds showed remarkable activity against used microorganisms.

Abstract In this study, molecular imprinted polymers for highly selective recognition of cholic acid, which is a bile acid, were prepared. Acrylamide, methacrylic acid, methacrylamide were chosen as monomer for the production of molecularly imprinted polymers. Functional monomers were polymerized with various crosslinkers; ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA), 1,4-butanediol diacrylate (BUT), trimethylpropane triacrylate (TMT) with target molecule (MIP-EGDMA, MIP-BUT and MIP TMT) and various MIPs were prepared. The cholic acid was removed from MIP with a suitable method. NIP polymers were synthesized without cholic acid (NIPEGDMA, NIP-BUT and NIP-TMT). For the characterization of synthesized polymers FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM analyses were used. The parameters that affect the adsorption of target species on polymers such as temperature, pH, and concentration were evaluated. The selectivity and reusability studies were also investigated. It is concluded that MIPs showed better adsorption capacity than NIPs for all solvents for cholic acid. The adsorption sequencing is MIP-TMT > MIP-BUT > MIP EGDMA. The maximum adsorption achieved with ethyl alcohol. The adsorption of cholic acid varies with chancing pH for all produced MIPs and NIPs. It is concluded that the adsorption of cholic acid is not affected by the temperature. The adsorption of cholic acid is followed as L type from Giles adsorption isotherms. The thermodynamic parameters are proved the physical nature of adsorption process. The studies conducted with deoxycholic acid, taurocholic acid that is homolog to cholic acid showed that produced MIPs are highly selective for cholic acid.
