Even though an individual might have a high participation rate, this could be interpreted as being instrumental to other goals rather than as a source of personal satisfaction. Accordingly, individuals were asked whether they derived more satisfaction from participation in religious activities or in activities outside the church. Table 5 shows there was a percentage difference of almost 57 between the extreme categories. The Sectarian almost unanimously said that he received more satisfaction from his religious participation. The differences between each of the four adjacent categories were significant at the .001 level.
