Understanding the divergences between farmer’s perception and meteorological records regarding climate change: a review

How farmers perceive climate change is linked to whether they are responding and adapting to it. However, often this perception does not correspond with what actually happens. Based on a search of empirical studies carried out in Africa and Asia, this paper analyzes two factors that can influence farmers’ perception regarding climate change: expected utility maximization and availability heuristic. While expected utility maximization refers to an expected change in farmers’ well-being, the availability heuristic is a mental shortcut based on the memory of occurrence of events. Generally, empirical studies show that farmers’ perceptions are aligning with meteorological records regarding an increase in temperature. However, while there are no significant variations in rainfall trends, farmers perceive a reduction in rainfall in the last few years. The recent increase in drought frequency and severity may cause this divergence, because it affects farmers’ well-being, and extreme droughts have a central position in peoples’ memory. In this context, our findings suggest that farmers’ perceptions are influenced by economic and psychological issues. Policymakers, extension workers and developers of climate projects need to pay attention to farm and farmers’ characteristics in order to develop mitigation and/or adaptation practices regarding climate change.

O processo decisório na criação de unidades que agregam valor à produção: as agroindústrias familiares

Entre outras definicoes, no cenario brasileiro a agricultura familiar caracteriza-se por seu papel imensuravel, levando em consideracao questoes sociais e economicas. Porem, nesse contexto, muitos agricultores tomam a decisao de realizarem outras atividades, inclusive nao agricolas, como as atividades agroindustriais. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste estudo e analisar o perfil destes tomadores de decisoes, as proprias agroindustrias familiares e identificar os principais determinantes que influenciaram na criacao dessas atividades. A pesquisa foi realizada com 72 agroindustrias familiares do estado do Rio Grande do Sul, utilizando metodos quantitativos e qualitativos, e em termos gerais, a perspectiva de aumentar a renda familiar agregando valor a materia-prima foi o principal motivo para a implementacao dessas unidades de producao.

Modais logísticos e a sua importância para a o agronegócio brasileiro: uma revisão bibliográfica

The agribusiness is an important segment in the Brazilian context. Its performance involves raw materials displacement and finished products to the final consumer, which is realized by the supply chains and distribution chains (logistics modal). This paper aims to develop a bibliographical study based in papers indexed in the Scielo database (Scientific Electronic Library Online) that analyzed issues relating to supply and distribution chains with the Brazilian agribusiness in general. From this, we sought to identify the name of the journals, the year of the publications, the most used keywords, sources of data, the authors who study this subject and their conclusions. The keywords used were: supply chains, distribution chains, transport costs and logistic modes. 24 articles in seven journals were found: Gestao e Producao, Revista de Economia e Sociologia Rural, Revista de Administracao Contemporânea, Journal of Transport Literature, Revista Brasileira de Fruticultura, Producao and Revista Brasileira de Economia. These studies mainly highlight the intermodal transport as strategies on maximizing logistics performance; the importance of railways displacement of commodities for export and the creation of linear programming models and targets to create satisfactory models in distribution chains.

REARRANJO DOS FATORES DE PRODUÇÃO NO PROCESSO PRODUTIVO DE CEREAIS: A IMPORTÂNCIA DO FATOR TECNOLOGIA

Change in the allocation of factors of production in production process will result in a important role to supply future demands of food. In this context, the article aims to analyze the rearrangement of production factors from the inclusion of technology in the agricultural production process. The countries surveyed were Brazil, USA and China. The data of production, and area were obtained by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Data about population were by the World Bank.It was adopted as the variation analysis tools (%), IEPP and IEPA indices, correlation and regression. The positive variation in production and productivity was perceived in the three ENCICLOPÉDIA BIOSFERA , Centro Científico Conhecer Goiânia, v.13 n.24; p. 2016 906 countries. The USA reduced the cereal area in 10.60%. This reduction, in parallel to increase production refers, in part, with technology factor allocated in the production process. In Brazil, labor factor is substituted by the technology factor. In this case, the rural population decreased in absolute and relative values, while productivity increases. On the other hand, China, due to their demographic characteristics combines technology, labor and land in the productive system, ranging them during this analysis.
