Optimal Planning for Deployment of FiWi Networks based on Hybrid Heuristic Process

Juan Inga; Esteban Inga; Andrés Blanco Ortega; Roberto Hincapie; Cristina Aragón Gómez

The deploying of FiWi networks is a problem that occurs often in real situations and requires is simplified through optimal planning. For this work we considered a scenario of urban dwellings with smart meters (SM), devices that need to be managed from a central office (CO) of an electric utility, with a advanced metering infrastructure forming a neighborhood area network (NAN). Therefore, it has raised a heuristic process due to, the a combinatorial problem property. The Heuristics poses the optimum location of cellular base stations (BS) for obtain the wireless connectivity to each smart meter (SM) , the next stage propose the optimal location of a CO with optical fiber link between each BS, and include optical splitters that will be used for each section of fiber to achieve full connectivity of the BS and a the point of metropolitan area network (MAN) equivalent to central office of an electric utility with the minimum cost by optical fiber used.

Electrical load curve reconstruction required for demand response using compressed sensing techniques

Juan Inga-Ortega; Esteban Inga-Ortega; Cristina Aragón Gómez; Roberto Hincapie

This work presents techniques for obtaining a reliable electrical load-curve based on comparative analysis between the different compressed sensing algorithms. Therefore, the goal is implementing compressed sensing (CS) when a wireless heterogeneous network, that exchanges information between electrical enterprise and smart meters, has a fault. Then, the data cannot be sent totally, and we would have the data only of some smart meters; thus, using the adequate technique of compressed sensing is possible to the reconstruction of load-curve required for generating demand response (DR) with the minimum error. In the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) there may be communication faults; then, it is necessary to have other forms for estimating the demand response using few measurements. In addition, using a dictionary based on the DCT transform does not mean that the sea is the best option for the representation of a signal. For example, among other results, in this work we obtain an average of percent root mean square difference nearest to the 5% in relation with a Gaussian function or Wavelet basis with values between 1.4 and 1.7% average PRD.

Radio direction finding system for spectrum management activities in developing countries

Tibisay Sánchez; Cristina Aragón Gómez; Gilma Inés Ángel Castillo; Marlon Patino Bernal

This article presents a radio direction finding prototype for developing countries. The algorithm used is based on angle of arrival estimation techniques. An antenna array designed for this task and the measurement setup are presented. Experimental results are included for an urban scenario.

From theory to practice: Implementations issues for techniques based on AoA and TDoA

Tibisay Sánchez; Cristina Aragón Gómez; Leonardo Betancur; Andrés Felipe García; Roberto Hincapie

This paper presents a bridge between theory and hardware implementations of radio direction finding (RDF) techniques particularly Angle of Arrival (AoA) and radiolocalization technique namely Time Difference of Arrival (TDoA) in non-collaborative scenarios. It presents aspects that must be considered in the system design and performance tests, including antenna array features in AoA. Minimum required distance between target node (TN) and reference nodes (RN), sampling frequency, etc., in TDoA. Furthermore, the paper presents a method to calculate the experimental estimation range value in TDoA algorithms.

Algoritmos de Radiolocalización basados en ToA, TDoA y AoA

Andrés Felipe García; Cristina Aragón Gómez; Tibisay Sánchez; Alfredo David Redondo; Leonardo Betancur; Roberto Hincapie

Based on the geometric principles of Triangulation and Trilateration some location estimation techniques such as ToA (Time of Arrival), TDoA (Time Difference of Arrival) and AoA (Angle of Arrival) are presented. For these estimation techniques different algorithms are analyzed including the Analytical method, Least Squares method and Taylor Series method for ToA and TDoA, and Capon, Barttlet and MUSIC for AoA. This article pretends to present survey of location estimation techniques and their mathematical description.
