Evaluating and monitoring large-scale distance learning programs require different techniques, systems, and analysis methods. This work presents challenges in evaluating and monitoring digital inclusion training programs, considering the aspects inherent in large-scale distance training, and reports an approach based on network and distance learning. The paper has the following objectives: (i) apply algorithms to extract indicators from interaction networks, in a real scenario and consolidated training based on distance learning; (ii) apply algorithms to correlate interaction indicators with other indicators related to the use and participation in learning environments; and (iii) discuss the relevance of the obtained indicators to promote feedback with information critical to the success of a large-scale distance training program.

This work presents challenges in evaluating and monitoring digital inclusion training programs, considering the aspects inherent in large-scale training, and report the main challenges in an approach based on network learning. For this, our goals are as follows: develop an architecture to provide all interface features with communication tools, data collection, automatic notification (alerts) of interest to those involved in training and proposal, and survey analyses; employ algorithms to measure the centrality, prestige, and density of interactions in a real case and consolidated training based on learning network; employ algorithms to correlate and measure, in probabilistic terms, the effects of participation in the interaction tools and the use of the resources and activities proposed; and improve a large-scale training program from the implementation of monitoring and tracking services offered in the architecture.

ACADEMIC SOCIAL NETWORKS: A CONCEPTUAL INTRODUCTION

Dalton Lopes Martins; Sueli Mara Soares Pinto Ferreira

Social networks have been a major focus of academic research in recent years. This focus has applied for reasons of greater theoretical approach and amount of data available for analysis in the academic social networks. This article aims to conceptualize these social networks, how they are formed, the motivations that produce their structure and dynamics, as well as benchmarks that can be found in the scientific literature. Aiming to show the main devices of scientific collaboration and evaluation built by Brazils science policy, the article presents these spaces as fundamental elements of analysis applied to future work in social network analysis.

Dalton Lopes Martins; Sueli Mara Soares Pinto Ferreira

This research analyzes the citations to scientific brazilian journals on Information areas (Archival, Library, Information Science, Documentation and Museology) published in 2009-2010. It aims to identify the most cited journals in papers and thesis by citation analysis. A bibliographic database (ABCDM) was used as source of data. A sample of 100 papers, that was selected randomly, and 70 thesis of Information Science were analyzed. The variables of the research were: the journal title, number of articles with journal citations, citation number and number of articles published. Charts were generated in MS-Excel. Investigates the reasons that lead the researchers to develop research in science and technology and what are the criteria used to determine the division and partnerships and co-authoring coinvencao. The approach is quantitative, the type of bibliometric study and is used as an instrument of data collection a questionnaire with open and closed questions, sent by e-mail to the researchers. The subjects of this study constitute the researchers who have both patent applications and published articles in the field of Biotechnology. 1049 questionnaires were sent out and 119 responses were obtained, and of these 58 were analyzed by researchers who have both represent articles as patents in its production, during the period from 2001 to 2010. There were differences in the criteria used in the fields. For articles, criteria such as training, interdisciplinary academic subject and bonding are important. For patents, the interdisciplinary subject and the technological link featured prominently. The study of the network dynamics is concerned to identify what types of events occurred in the connections between nodes that led to the formation of the current structure. Understanding these events is to understand the specific ways and strategies that have resulted in a network. This study aims to analyze these events with specific focus on scientific collaboration networks, considering coauthoring relationships and participation in defenses of theses and dissertations. Analyzing more than 11,000 documents specific to the area of Communication Sciences, we propose two characteristic types of events that aim to explain the formation dynamics of networks in the analysis.Examines scientific activity in nanotechnology and agribusiness and the objective is to develop scientific indicators through bibliometrics as a method of analyzing information. We carried out the recovery of articles indexed in the Web of Science from 2001 to 2010 on nanotechnology and agribusiness, and the construction of bibliometric indicators. As for the scientific, the growth was significant, showing steady increase in the number of publications in the area. The results indicate that the United States and China are the leaders in research, and knowledge areas of emphasis, Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Sciences. As subjects of interest have: Pesticides, Water Sensors and Biosensors, and Solo. The journals with the highest number of Biosensors and Bioelectronics were publications and Analytica Chimica Acta. The research contributes to the construction of scientific knowledge on nanotechnology for agribusiness, bibliometrics is an essential tool to quantify the results in any area of science knowledge.
