This article explores the influence of the confined work system on the organizational environment representations and social behaviors, inside and outside the workplace. Confinement may be referred to as a total experience in the workplace, imposing special work and life regimes over workers. The study, based on Bourdieu´s and on Moscovici’s Social Representations Theory, explored how confined workers construct meanings and representations of their work through free evocation and discourse analysis. Forty interviews were conducted in two large companies in the oil industry, with head offices in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias (RJ). The results presented confirmed the influence of confined work environments in the formation of beliefs and the consolidation of specific behaviors, based on defense mechanisms designed to maintain psychological stability of workers, essential to survival in such environments.

To be regarded as a company of economy of communion (EEdC), a firm should follow specific principles, grounded on the values of the sharing culture, expressed in the Charter of Principles of the Company of Economy of Communion (EdC). This study aimed at verifying whether the companies of Polo Spartaco corroborate the principles expressed in this charter, in the daily practice of people management, through a descriptive case study, with a qualiquantitative approach, using semi-structured interviews with managers, application of a questionnaire to employees, direct observation, and documentary evidence. The results point out that the people management practices at the companies connected to Polo Spartaco, in fact, corroborate the discourse expressed in the Charter of Principles of EdC. It was observed that their people management practices, albeit poorly structured, are successful in generating productivity, commitment, participation, and consolidation of values.

This paper presents results of an exploratory research that aimed at exploring employees´ similarities and differences in work-related values in public, private and hybrid organizations in Brazil. Ninety-eight questionnaires were considered from employees (managerial and non-managerial level) of nineteen organizations of the three groups (public, private and hybrid). Drawing on Wittmer (1991) and Tamayo & Gondim (1996), the research privileged items related to for categories of workrelated values: i) efficacy/efficiency; ii) management system; iii) respect towards employees, and iv) reward preferences. Analytical procedures consisted of distribution comparisons using one-way analysis of variance and Kruskal-Wallis nonparametric test. Except for two items related to management system (hierarchy and professionalism), no significant differences could be found among the three groups (at a 5% confidence level). Results relating to reward preferences were significantly different from Wittmer´s (1991) findings in the American context.
