Objective: This research analyzed in vitro the antifungal activity of the solution composed by grapes seed extract Vitis vinifera (Doctor’s A-Z ® ) against Candida Albicans (ATCC 20231) species aiming to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum fungicide concentration (MFC). Methods: To that, were used micro dilution boards of 96 wells where the strain of Candida . Was tested the diluted solutions in distilled water on the concentrations 0.20 g/mL, 0.30 g/mL and 0.40 g/mL. As growing control were used growing fungous, to test the viability of the strains. As positive control, was used nystatin (commercial suspension 100,000 UI/mL) and as sterility control of growing way. The tests were conducted in triplicate and the data obtained were analyzed through the exam Kruskal-Wallis, with significance level of 95% ( p Results: The results indicated that all the samples were sensible to the analyzed extract and the CIM was obtained with the solution of 0.30 g/mL (30%). However, wasn’t observed a fungicide effect (MFC) on the tested concentrations. Conclusion: We conclude that the grapes seed extract can be an alternative against the gender Candida , however are necessary larger studies to prove their ant fungous action. Key words: Grapes seed extract, Stomatitis under prosthesis, Candida Albicans , Dental prosthesis. Objective: In recent studies on the prescribing pattern of antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) were the most prescribed antidepressants in many countries. Yet, little reports investigated depressive populations for antidepressants prescribing in Malaysia. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the pattern of prescribed antidepressants in a Malaysian group of depressive patients throughout their years of depression. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 119 adult male depressive outpatients who were recruited from three psychiatric centers. Patients’ age and duration of depression were recorded, as well as their current and past antidepressants prescribed. Results: Of the study participants, 107 patients (89.9%) were currently antidepressant-treated. Mean age of patients was 49.9 (SD=11.0), while mean duration of depression was 7.8 years (SD=6.1). Markedly, SSRIs were the most currently prescribed antidepressants (72.9%), followed by tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs; 10.3%). Moreover, SSRIs predominated the prescribed antidepressants over the years of depression. Additionally, there was an increase in the share of SSRIs prescribing during these years in the expenses of other antidepressants, especially TCAs, whose prescription share fell from 34.1%, in the years preceding 2005, to only 10.3% in the current time. Conclusion: In sum, this study findings concur several reports from various countries, in which SSRI were the most frequent prescribed antidepressants and their prescribing was increasing over nearly the last 10 years. Further research is advocated to explore these findings in larger depression populations.

Objective: The objective of this work was to evaluate the behavior of Acid Violet 43 pigment shampoos and conditioners formulations and when applied to hair through 10 formulations. Method: 10 formulations were developed, these being 5 shampoos and 5 conditioners. Among 5 shampoos, 4 were pigmented in different concentrations and 1 served as control. In the same way it was done for the conditioners, being 4 conditioners pigmented in different concentrations and 1 conditioner for control. The samples were subjected to organoleptic and physicochemical characterization for 15 days, being evaluated appearance, color and odor, behavior after centrifugation, determination of pH, viscosity and foam content (for shampoo). Result: The samples showed satisfactory results in the tests, because their organoleptic and physicochemical characteristics remained stable throughout the analysis period. As for the behavior of the pigment on hair shaft, hair samples were bleached and washed with the formulations developed. Prewash and post wash solutions (wash water) were prepared at the same concentrations and were also read in a spectrophotometer at 570 nm. For white, the depigmented products were used. It was observed that both the shampoos and the conditioners deposit pigment in the wires, however we verified by visual analysis that the conditioners are more effective. Conclusion: The wicks were also subjected to moisture content tests to verify if pigment interfered with the deposition of water in hair. Key words: Acid violet 43, Bleaching, Semi-permanent hair dye, Hair dye.

BACKGROUND Propolis is a resinous complex produced by Apis mellifera L. bees whose variety of pharmacological properties results from the complexity of its composition. In dentistry, propolis is used on the prevention of oral diseases such as dental caries and gingivitis. Prospective studies in intellectual property banks are important to increase market competitiveness and thus generate new products in the various research areas. In this way, investments in patents play an important role in the technological and economic development of a country. OBJECTIVE To evaluate patents with dental products containing propolis, on intellectual property banks. METHOD The research was conducted in 10 banks of intellectual property, including since the first deposits up to 2016. Relevant information that describes the invention in the patent document were collected, processed and described. RESULTS The search performed in 62 patents using propolis in the dental topic. World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has the largest number of filing patents (83.60%) and the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI) in third place with 4 patents (6.55%). Built-in dental cream with propolis was the most patented product. The first patent date of 1998, followed by an increase in the number of deposits in the last 20 years. Most of the patents are A61K code (51) for medical, dental or hygienic purposes. CONCLUSION This study has shown that propolis is a promising bioactive component in dental products, especially for use in Cariology and Periodontology. Although there has been a significant progress in applications of propolis, the field of dental products is still a growing area and it is important to encourage innovation and development of new products incorporating propolis based on knowledge of its composition and therapeutic properties.

Background: Mucosal cyst of the maxillary sinus or antral pseudocyst is one of great importance injury, being the pathology that affects more the maxillary sinus. Their discovery, in most cases, it is for the interpretation of the images in routine panoramic radiography. Aims: The research aimed to evaluate the prevalence of mucous cyst in maxillary sinus in radiology clinic at Ceara Federal University. Material and Methods: To this study conduction, were analyzed 1996 panoramic radiographs from a digital file obtained between April 2011 to April 2013 Results:. Aspects as gender, affected side and teeth absence next to the cyst in the respective quadrant were evaluated. It was observed in the sample the occurrence of 45 patients with suggested images of mucous cysts in maxillary sinus, making a prevalence of 2,25%. From them, 26 (57,8%)were female and 19 (42,2%) were male. 48 maxillary sinuswere affected with the wound, from which28 (58,3%) it was in the left side and 20 (41,7%) in the right site. Three patients presented the wound in both sides, what represents 6,7% of the affected patients. From those 48 Mucous retention cyst, 40 (83,3%) were not related to an edentulous area in ipsilateral quadrant and 8 (16,7%) were shown next to an edentulous area. Conclusion: The conclusion was that the cyst of retention mucous in the maxillary sinus had prevalence in males and in the left side of the maxillary sinus. It was not found a relation between the cyst and the edentulous area.
