Validação do instrumento Team Factors Inventory em empresas brasileiras

Fernando Antonio Prado Gimenez; Edmundo Inácio Júnior

The aim of the paper was to test the validity and reliability of a Portuguese version of the Team Factors Inventory/TFI. This inventory measures the propensity of a team towards creative leadership and consists of a paper and pen measure with 37 items in a Likert-type scale. The method involved review of literature on creative leadership, backtranslation of the inventory, and data analysis through descriptive statistics, hypotheses testing, factor analysis, analysis of variance, using as control variables, sex, and type of enterprise. The sample consisted of 114 respondents, being 73 owner-managers of high-tech incubated firms and 41 owner-managers of service firms. Analyses indicated that the translated version into Portuguese of the inventory reached satisfactory levels of validity and reliability. This means that TFI may be applied in a cultural context different from its origin.

Procurement in international markets is a current practice in today’s global supply chains, leading logistics operations to include import and export activities in their procurement process. Such activities are usually of complex nature, since they are subject to diverse customs requirements in different countries. In this context, Brazilian customs is ranked low in terms of competitiveness according to various international organizations. However, published studies on customs administration in Brazil are rare, and there is no research addressing performance measurement in the specialized literature. Thus, this paper aims to present and discuss performance indicators employed by customs administrations around the world, with a special attention to Brazil. Customs is part of a global supply chain management. As an exploratory qualitative research, this manuscript provides a comparison of performance indicators employed in Brazil against those used by countries with high-performance customs. A set of performance indicators was selected according to international standards. Data concerning Brazilian customs was collected from the Ministry of Finance, using the Law on Access to Information, and published Management Reports related to the Brazilian Revenue Authority, in charge of tax and customs administration. This topic is relevant in Brazil because the indicators used so far favour tax collection and controls (related to “enforcement practices”) to the detriment of the service level provided to the taxpayer (related to “compliance practices” and the “service charter”), as used in countries with high customs performance. As a result, this paper puts into evidence the need to reform the Brazilian customs system, favouring a balanced approach combining “enforcement” and “compliance” in order to increase the competitiveness of international supply chains crossing this country.

Validation of the team factors inventory in Brazilian companies

Fernando Antonio Prado Gimenez; Edmundo Inácio Júnior

The aim of this paper is to test the validity and reliability of a Portuguese version of the Team Factors Inventory/TFI derived from the Creative Leadership Model. This inventory measures the propensity of a team towards creative leadership and consists of a paper and pen measure with 37 items on a Likert-type scale. The literature concerning creativity in organizational studies has focused mainly on the contribution the individual makes to innovation and technical change. The model of Creative Leadership, on the other hand, has turned attention to group behaviour and team management. The model has been recently proposed in England and there are no literature reports on its application in a language other than English. The method involved a review of the literature on creative leadership, backtranslation of the inventory, and data analysis through descriptive statistics, hypotheses testing, factor analysis, and analysis of variance, using as control variables, sex, and type of enterprise. The sample consisted of 115 respondents, with 73 owner-managers of high-tech incubated firms and 42 owner-managers of service firms. Analyses indicated that the translated version Portuguese of the inventory reached satisfactory levels of validity and reliability. This means that the TFI may be applied in a cultural context other than the original.
