Background and managerial practice of nurses: paths for transforming praxis

Qualitative research using a dialectics view; the objective is to analyze the demands and the expectations from the setting of managerial practices in view of the Pedagogical Project and the strategies which may or may not favor the transforming praxis. It involves 11 students, 12 professors, and 12 service nurses who are the participants in the teaching-learning process of managerial knowledge, in the interceding space, in the fields of practice and in the curricular training programs, both in the hospital environment and in the basic health services and of the Nursing graduation course from a Federal University, from the city of Alfenas-MG. It uses the collecting technique by focal group and the analysis of the contents is subsided by two great discussions: background and work. The results point that the nurses background and praxis must go through the work processes in the caring, managerial and educative dimensions as well as in the scientific investigation, building paths for the development of competences, in the teaching and service interaction, following the current National Curriculum Guidelines.

Hospital care: assessment of users' satisfaction during hospital stay

Health care teams have followed the National Health Systems (SUS) principles to ensure quality improvement in healthcare, and patient satisfaction is one of the instruments used to evaluate quality. This study aimed to evaluate patient satisfaction regarding the assistance to their needs during hospitalization, in a general hospital of a city in the interior of São Paulo. Data were collected through participant observation and use of focal group techniques in this qualitative research. A theme guide was used and a total of 20 subjects participated in the study. Data were analyzed through content analysis and interpreted through triangulation. Study results demonstrate that patients were satisfied with the care rendered. Enfermagem: realidade e perspectiva na assistência e no gerenciamento

As autoras buscam discutir as atividades desenvolvidas pela enfermagem sob duas orientacoes gerais: a da assistencia e do gerenciamento, no que diz respeito ao concreto do trabalho e as perspectivas desse mesmo trabalho e as perspectivas desse mesmo trabalho. Assim, polemizam a dicotomia criada em torno da funcao administrativa versus assistencial e chamam a atencao para a impossibilidade de se pensar o trabalho de enfermagem de forma desarticulada das diversas praticas em saude, que no conjunto complementam-se para atender as necessidades de saude da populacao a nivel social.

Rotatividade dos trabalhadores de enfermagem nos hospitais do Município de Ribeirão Preto

The present study was carried out in 1990 with the objective of measuring and analyzing the turnover of nursing personnel in nine general hospitals located in Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The population under study consisted of nurses, nursing assistants, nursing technicians, and nursing attendants who started work or left their jobs between 1 January and 31 December 1990. Employment status for these workers was checked monthly based on information from the human resources department of each hospital. Two types of turnover indices were calculated: the liquid rate of substitution and the median length of service of the departing workers. Results showed that the number of nursing personnel employed in Ribeirao Preto increased in 1990. However, results also revealed a high turnover rate, especially for philanthropic and private institutions, with liquid substitution rates of 32% and 39% per year and median lengths of service of 8 months and 12 months, respectively. These circumstances could lead to higher costs and reduced productivity. The only public hospital in the study presented the lowest level of turnover (liquid substitution rate of 6% and median length of service of 42 months). Nurses and attendants had the highest substitution rates and thus were the least stable categories.

Liderança na enfermagem brasileira: aproximando-se de sua desmitificação

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo apreender a visao que se tem da questao da lideranca na enfermagem, atraves da analise critica da literatura produzida predominantemente no Brasil sobre o tema, no periodo de 1930 a 1995, no sentido de contribuir para a sua desmitificacao. Partindo do pressuposto que a enfermagem e uma pratica social, portanto articulada as demais praticas de saude, conduzimos a investigacao a luz de uma abordagem historico-social. Os dados empiricos foram extraidos a partir dos discursos sobre o assunto ou temas afins, contidos em 14 periodicos pesquisados (sendo 12 de enfermagem), anais de congressos, catalogos de pesquisas e pesquisadores, alem de 3 teses. Para a analise dos dados seguimos uma delimitacao temporal, distribuida em quatro periodos historicos, assim estabelecida com a intencao de manter a similaridade dos discursos peculiares a cada periodo. O estudo demonstrou que a questao da lideranca na enfermagem vem sendo tratada na profissao de maneira cristalizada, idealizada, envolta por um carater mitico, contribuindo para a manutencao do status quo e para uma certa alienacao dos trabalhadores da area.

Reflexões sobre o planejamento em saúde e o processo da reforma sanitária brasileira

The authors considered carefully the Brazilian social policies at the regimes of populism and militarism as well as at the democratic transition following the presupposition that the social planning in Latin America emerged as an instrument for social policies formulation. The authors also considered some tendencies of the Latin America Planning emphasizing the Strategic Focus of the Health Program formulated by the Public Health School of Medellin; the Strategic Thought elaborated by Mario Testa; and the Strategic Situational Planning developed by Carlos Matus.

Saberes, estratégias, ideologias de enfermagem: reflexão baseada no estudo de Lopes

: This paper makes a reflection on the knowledge and ideologies present in the nursing practice within a hospital context, based on theoretical references used by the sociologist Noemia da Gloria Mendes Lopes in her MS dissertation in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1994. In this dissertation she analyzes the work of nurses within hospital contexts. The author observed that within the professional context of nursing there are many social practices of work indicating different strategies of valuing and revaluating the profession. It was concluded from this reflection that there are better possibilities of performing such strategies in specialized services than in medical clinic services.Este texto tem por objetivo fazer uma reflexao sobre os saberes e ideologias da enfermagem no contexto hospitalar, com base no referencial teorico utilizado na dissertacao de mestrado da sociologa Noemia da Gloria Mendes Lopes, realizada na cidade de Lisboa - Portugal no ano de 1994, que ao desenvolver sua investigacao objetivou analisar o trabalho dos enfermeiros em contexto hospitalar. A autora observou que no contexto do exercicio profissional da enfermagem existem varias praticas sociais de trabalho, indicadoras de diferentes estrategias de valorizacao e revalorizacao profissional. A partir desta reflexao concluimos que nos servicos especializados existem maiores possibilidades de acionamento destas estrategias do que nos servicos de clinica medica.
