Ecological and phytocenotic features of the bryophyte component of water protection forests on the Ufa Plateau.

Elvira Z. Baisheva; S. N. Zhigunova; V. B. Martynenko; P. S. Shirokikh

The composition of bryophytes in forests of the Ufa Plateau has been studied. The results obtained by ordination methods show that the coverage of epigeic mosses decreases with an increase in tree stand density and proportion of broadleaf tree species as well as in the coverage and average height of herbaceous layer. The main factors determining the distribution of epigeic mosses are illumination level, soil fertility, and the degree of soil development.

Influence of Clear Fellings on the Bryophyte Component of the Broad-leaved Forests of the Bashkir Cis-Ural Region

Elvira Z. Baisheva; P. S. Shirokikh; V. B. Martynenko; B. M. Mirkin

The change in the composition of the bryophyte component of succession communities that occur in the process of natural regeneration at the site of clear felling of the indigenous elm—maple–linden forests of the Bashkir Cis-Ural Region has been studied. The vulnerability of species to the consequences of felling is affected by their substrate confinement, ecological amplitude in relation to the factors of temperature, humidity, variability of soil moisture, and type of life strategy. In the secondary aspen forests, the absence or low constancy of nemoral epiphytic and ground mosses was noted.

Biological diversity of ecosystems: Approaches to research and conservation

Elvira Z. Baisheva; B. M. Mirkin; L. G. Naumova; V. B. Martynenko; P. S. Shirokikh

Scientific-methodological and practical approaches to the organization of conservation of the biological diversity of ecosystems in Russia and in the European Union countries are discussed. The principles of the organization of ecological networks, the concept of the biotope as the basic unit of conservation, and the experience in selecting important plant areas are considered. Particular attention is given to the specific nature of forest conservation. It is noted that the modern concept of conservation of biological diversity offers not only the creation of protected areas but also the regulated use of agricultural lands.
