Institutional conditions and teacher`s development of electronic skills: a study in a Federal University

Abstract The expansion of Brazilian higher education institutions, especially with the installation of several campuses in the countryside and the advancement of ICT, has stimulated the use of distance education by universities as a way to respond to new educational demands arising from changes in the new world economic order. This new teaching-learning scenario involves change in skills and higher education of professors: solid academic development, work experience and pedagogical competence. The university institutional conditions in which professors are inserted can therefore influence the development of such skills. Therefore, this study aims to discuss, the influence of institutional conditions in developing electronic skills of higher education teachers. To achieve the objective pose, a basic interpretive qualitative study was carried out. Eleven faculty members at Federal University that work in the distance education took part in semi-structured interviews. Interviews and documents were examined by content analysis with the help of a specific qualitative research software, the ATLAS.ti. It was found that it is necessary for Federal University to strengthen distance education institutionally, through expansion of its staff, allocation of technical and administrative personnel with the course Coordination’s, either by recognizing workload of faculty in this modality or also favouring the development of electronic skills of professors. Esse novo cenario de ensino-aprendizagem envolve mudanca de competencias e de formacao do professor do ensino superior: desenvolvimento academico solido, experiencia profissional e competencia pedagogica. O desenvolvimento de tais competencias pode ser, portanto, influenciado pelas condicoes institucionais das universidades nas quais os professores estao inseridos. Este estudo tem o proposito de discutir a influencia das condicoes institucionais no desenvolvimento de competencias eletronicas dos professores de ensino superior. Para tanto, foi realizado um estudo qualitativo interpretativo basico. Professores vinculados a uma Universidade Federal e com atuacao na educacao a distância responderam as entrevistas semiestruturadas. Os dados coletados foram examinados pela analise de conteudo proposta por Bardin (2011) com auxilio do software o Atlas.Ti. Os resultados do estudo indicam a necessidade de a instituicao fortalecer a educacao a distância institucionalmente, seja por meio da expansao de seu quadro de pessoal, na alocacao de pessoal tecnico-administrativo junto as Coordenacoes dos cursos, seja reconhecendo a carga horaria do docente que atua nesta modalidade ou, ainda, favorecendo o desenvolvimento das competencias eletronicas dos professores. LACLAU, MOUFFE AND STRIKERS FEDERAL UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF (IM)PARTIALITY IN MEDIA REPORTS

Considering the importance of the strike movement for the formation of class consciousness, it is expected to find a plurality of voices present in the construction of meanings related to the movement. Thus, recourse to the Discourse Theory proposed by Laclau and Mouffe (1985) hoping to answer the following question: how the media masterminded the discourse about the strike 2012 federal university teachers during the four month of standstill. It is assumed a critical approach, post-structuralist and post-Marxist current matrix, adopting a qualitative research strategy. Twenty-one news were recovered in the newspaper Folha de São Paulo, hegemonic at the time of the study. Is noticeable in the articles analyzed the position of the newspaper does not show the existence of indifferent strike, especially considering the dates of the reports. However, the evidence that was given to the movement allows us to question the degree of importance that this media is provided to give. When working under the discourse of social interaction, this study aimed to analyze the (journalistic) speech as constitutionally dialogical, not necessarily polyphonic, in which the subjects engaged constantly struggle for hegemony.

The Teaching Research Methods in Management Course: Should We go beyond the survey?

The production of knowledge can happen not only through the transfer of knowledge, but it is also possible to produce it through the scientific research. Thinking about the teaching that enables analytical attitudes, reflexive, questioning and problem-solving, which learning comes from own observations to inquire about the knowledge and the world itself, implies articulate it with research and therefore related to the discipline of research methodology, core the discussion of this theoretical essay. Being the search the soul of academic life, it becomes a tool in the production of knowledge and important strategy to integrate knowledge, fragmented because of curricular and technicist disciplines programs structures, specialist teachers and fragmented teaching methodologies. Of the theoretical discussion we conclude that yes, we should go beyond the survey if we want to privilege a critical training, allowing students the opportunity how to learn to learn.
