Gilvandenys Leite Sales; Francisco Herbert Lima Vasconcelos; José Aires de Castro Filho; Mauro Cavalcante Pequeno

This paper presents results related to the development of activities of applied exploratory modelling to Quantum Physics Teaching by using use of the learning object (LO) called the Quantum Duck. The LO is a metaphor to the photoelectric effect and it makes possible the calculation of the constant of Planck. A study was done through an experiment with High School students. As a result, it was noticed that the construction or manipulation of a model does not depend exclusively of the assimilation of the employed logic in the tool computacional, but of the understanding of the the physical phenomenon and their abilities in relating it to the aim of the developed activity.

The objective of this study was to analyze climate change impacts on irrigation water demand and availability in the Jaguaribe River basin, Brazil. For northeastern Brazil, five global circulation models were selected using a rainfall seasonal evaluation screening technique from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change named Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5. The climate variables were generated for the base period of 1971–2000, as were projections for the 2025–2055 future time slice. Removal of maximum and minimum temperature and rainfall output bias was used to estimate reference evapotranspiration, irrigation water needs, and river flow using the rainfall—river flow hydrological model Soil Moisture Accounting Procedure for the baseline and future climate (Representative Concentration Pathways 4.5 and 8.5 scenarios). In addition, by applying improved irrigation efficiency, a scenario was evaluated in comparison with field observed performance. The water-deficit index was used as a water availability performance indicator. Future climate projections by all five models resulted in increases in future reference evapotranspiration (2.3–6.3%) and irrigation water needs (2.8–16.7%) for all scenarios. Regarding rainfall projections, both positive (4.8–12.5%) and negative (− 2.3 to − 15.2%) signals were observed. Most models and scenarios project that annual river flow will decrease. Lower future water availability was detected by the less positive water-deficit index. Improved irrigation efficiency is a key measure for the adaptation to higher future levels of water demand, as climate change impacts could be compensated by gains in irrigation efficiency (water demand changes varying from − 1.7 to − 35.2%).

This work aims to validate a quality assessment tool for online courses. The validation of the Online Education Quality questionnaire was performed by the Exploratory Factor Analysis to obtain possible groupings of statements that have similar statistical patterns. In total, 471 teachers responded the request to participate in the survey. Were used, as construct validation criteria, the KMO and Bartllet tests, and also the reliability test of generated clusters (Cronbachs alpha). Five components were extracted, explaining ~ 69% of the total data variance. With the extraction of these components may be considered so that the instrument is capable of generating five indicators related to quality of online education.

Abstract: This paper aimed at the medium size cities in Rio de Janeiro and their politics to control the digital divide through the introduction of computers and Internet on public schools. The analysis divided this process in three different stages from the acquisition of computers to Internet access. The appraisal pointed out the necessity of public policies to overcome the stages as the majority of these cities are still acquiring computers instead of implementing Internet access and combating the digital divide.
