Campbell's Urology

Frank Hinman

Each new edition of this classic work lets us increase our knowledge of urology and bring it up to date. With editors from the several important fields within urology and a host of experts, 90 in all, the work is bound to be authoritative and exhaustive. Each volume has over 1000 pages, starting with anatomy, physiology, and (new) genetics. Pathophysiology is adequately covered for what is basically a book for clinically oriented users. Advances in the fields of neurourology, sexual function, and infertility are presented authoritatively. A complete section on urologic surgery in childhood is found, in addition to almost an entire volume on established surgical procedures in adults. In this part, the principles of the operations are described, and, although the number and quality of the illustrations vary from operation to operation, the reader can easily follow the essential steps. New techniques, such as endoscopy, ultrasonography, laser applications, and

Financing residency training in urology.

Frank Hinman; William H. Boyce; Morris D. Kerstein; E. Darracott Vaughan; Paul C. Peters

Five educators concerned with changes occurring in the financing of medical education and care reviewed the present status of residency programs and their financing. Future support depends on political decisions as well as demonstrable needs. The effects of anticipated reductions in funding for residents and their programs may be countered by the development of alternative sources and the restructuring of present programs for more efficient operation. The need for leadership is clear.

Cystic Diseases of the Kidney

Frank Hinman

Specialists in nephrology, urology, pediatrics, pathology and radiology contribute to the preparation of this book and thus assure that each section is authoritative and current. More importantly, they clarify much confusion arising from the muddled nomenclature that has blocked our understanding of the relationships among renal cystic diseases. Renal cystic diseases are so significant as causes of end-stage kidney disease that their etiologies, resulting symptoms, and complications need to be better understood. The chapter on classification looks complicated but through listing the types by etiology and site, order is gained. The chapter on radiography illustrates the most modern technics and supplements them with photographs of the corresponding gross specimens. In addition, as part of the discussion of each cystic entity, the radiographic diagnostic features are described and well-illustrated. The section on functional abnormalities associated with renal cystic disease contains useful information for management of patients. The genetics section also has
