This paper describes the total support system for DDL which has been approved by design engineers at Fujitsu. A simulator is used not only at register transfer level but also with gate level description. The translator generates gate level designs which are then optimized by designers. The verifier has powerful functions to detect conflicts in specification and its implementation.

Most existing hardware design verification techniques (logic simulation, symbolic simulation etc.), as well as the design phase, are rather synthetic. This paper discusses an analytic verification technique with examples of its application. This technique employs backward symbolic simuation, or causality tracing, which is carried out from the negation of a proposition which should be verified. Analyticity this technique has, not only makes verification powerful but gives it another feature, design error diagnosis.

This paper addresses service innovation. First, issues characteristic of services are studied from multiple perspectives. Then we present a model for service innovation, which is a plan-do-check-act cycle to improve services by making use of technologies. We take a close look at the model with a case study.

The paper proposes an agent-based system, called SAGE:Francis, to search a commodity or sets of commodities for electronic commerce. This system has the following functions: (1) seamlessly integrating information about commodities distributed over networks by conversational agents; (2) searching for a commodity required by compound conditions; and (3) creating a menu for a search for sets of commodities from legacy knowledge such as cooking recipes. The paper describes the system configuration, interface between agents, and experimental results. As a result, SAGE:Francis successfully supports users when searching for sets of commodities by recipe-based menus and integrated information about commodities stored in databases over networks by conversational agents.

This paper generalizes processes for various services and defines a generalized service process (GSP). The first half presents GSP in two processes: one on the customer side and the other on the provider side, expressed by context-free grammar with generic terms. The second half proposes a GSP-based system and its applications. A procedure is outlined for specializing GSP by reducing the production rules of GSP. Examples of specialization representing individual service processes are also illustrated. Finally, the effectiveness of the methodology is discussed in terms of how it helps us better understand individual services and share and reuse best practices and knowledge.
