Visão de profissionais e estudantes da área de saúde sobre a interface saúde e meio ambiente

This article presents the view health area professionals and students have concerning the interface between health and the environment. It is a qualitative, descriptive study undertaken with different social players that are part of the vocational training process in the health care area in a municipality in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The data were collected through a semistructured interview comprising gui-ding questions on the study subject and carried out among hospital workers, nurses, health care professors and students, and community health agents. Each subproject was analyzed individually based on the content analysis framework. The results show that the subjects have dichotomous views on the environment and acknowledge the adverse effects of the current environmental crisis, claiming that human beings are the main cause of it. The study subjects understand that there is a narrow interface between health and the environment and that the economically less privileged populations are those most affected by environmental damage. It is concluded that deepening the debate on the subject in the process of providing training and professional practice in health is fundamental in order to seek effective socioenvironmental responsibility among the social players involved in the sector.

Enfermagem e meio ambiente: uma revisão bibliográfica

The study aimed identify national scientific production on nursing and environment interface. This is a descriptive bibliographical research, whose data were collected in the databases SCIELO and LILACS, BDENF. This study’s body analysis consisted in 32 articles published in nursing periodicals in the period 1993-2010. The articles’ analysis enabled to evidence three main categories existence: Educational Actions Development, Professional Training and Health Services’ Solid Waste Management. It was concluded that Nursing field should approach the environmental thematic, proposing pedagogical strategies that involve professionals’ awareness

Interface between health and environment in professional education in health

Objective: To understand the conception in the academic health area about the health and environment interface, and how this is expressed in the academic experience. Methods: A qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study, conducted with 24 students in the area of health of a public institution of higher education. The data collected, during the period from August to September 2010, by means of semi-structured interviews, were analyzed according to the reference of content analysis. Results: Subjects related understanding that there was a strong interface between health and environment. They pointed out that the socioeconomically disadvantaged populations are more predisposed to the effects of environmental problems, which led to the occurrence of many diseases. Some subjects, however, had difficulty in expressing an idea about the theme. Conclusion: A thematic approach is necessary in the educational process of health professionals, aiming at the acquisition of social and environmental responsibility.OBJETIVO: Conocer la concepcion de academicos del area de la salud sobre la interfaz salud y medio ambiente, y como se expresa en su vivencia academica. METODOS: Estudio de abordaje cualitativo, descritivo-exploratorio, realizado con 24 academicos del area de la salud de una institucion publica de ensenanza superior. Los datos recolectados, en el periodo de agosto a setiembre de 2010, por medio de una entrevista semi-estructurada fueron analizados de acuerdo con el referencial del analisis de contenido. RESULTADOS: Los sujetos relataron comprender que hay una estrecha interfaz entre salud y medio ambiente. Apuntaron que las poblaciones menos favorecidas socioeconomicamente estan mas predispuestas a los efectos de la problematica ambiental, lo que lleva a la ocurrencia de muchas enfermedades. Algunos sujetos, entre tanto, presentaron dificultad para manifestar una idea sobre el tema. CONCLUSION: Es necesario un abordaje de la tematica en el proceso formativo de los profesionales del area de la salud, visando a la adquisicion de responsabilidad socioambiental.

Vídeo educativo como recurso para educação em saúde a pessoas com colostomia e familiares

Objective To know the perceptions of participants in a support group for people with colostomy on the use of video as a resource for health education. Method Qualitative research with 16 participants in a support group for people with colostomy in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data were collected in April and May of 2016, through a focus group, and subjected to the thematic analysis proposed by Minayo. Results The results led to three categories: care and self-care are learned alone: the lived reality; health education and learning through educational video: perceived opportunities; the singularities of the educational video from the viewpoint of people with colostomy and their families. Conclusion The scarcity of guidelines retards independence and hinders autonomy in care and self-care. The audio-visual technology applied in this study complements the educational guidelines, and can enable changes and the opportunity to rethink pedagogical nursing practices.

Percepções de trabalhadores e estudantes atuantes em um pronto-socorro, sobre meio ambiente e saúde

Objective: to learn about the perception of the environment and health of workers and students working in an emergency room. Method: this was a qualitative and descriptive-exploratory study developed in the emergency room of a university hospital. Seventeen workers, professionals, and students participated in the study. The data were collected from November of 2011 to February of 2012 through a semi-structured interview and analyzed on the basis of the proposed referential for content analysis. Results: the participants presented a polarized vision about the environment, between a sense of belonging and a naturalized perception. The concepts about environmental issues are guided by the notion of detachment, and the perception of necessary engagement of individuals and public authorities in relation to the theme. The relationship between environment and health was understood as intrinsic and direct, however, sometimes focused on the disease. Conclusions: the key role of training and health institutions is highlighted as promoters of a discussion in the search of instigating reflection on the topic, offering not only a theoretical contribution, but also providing strategies that create opportunities for workers to rethink their actions from living experiences and individual reflection about the topic.

Waste Management: a descriptive-exploratory study in the emergency room of a teaching hospital

Aim: To discover the vision of individuals working in the emergency room of a teaching hospital on the management of hospital waste. Method: this is a descriptive-exploratory study, in which a qualitative approach was used. It was conducted with 17 employees and students in the health field, working in an emergency room. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation, and analyzed based on the framework for content analysis. Results: The data showed that the participants are lacking in terms of knowledge on the subject, which is mainly influenced by factors such as a lack of approach on the topic and issues related to the work carried out in emergency rooms. In-service education is seen as a good strategy in the search for an effective commitment to the environmental cause. Conclusion: The approach to the topic through training and continuing education are pathways towards the sensitization of workers regarding waste management.
