The use of different methodological references has been a constant search in the practice of research of different areas of knowledge. Therefore, nursing has tried to base its studies on diversified references, as a way to broaden its body of knowledge. Thus, this article aims to propose a few considerations and ideas about the use and contributions of phenomenology as a research method in the nursing area, by reviewing its main guiding presuppositions, as well as analyzing the availability of the use of phenomenology in studies of this area. So, we claim the importance of phenomenology as a methodological reference, but also a theoretical-philosophical reference for nursing research.

Psychological demands and control are psychosocial dimensions of work that may generate high levels of stress in nursing work. This study evaluates the association between psychological demands and control in nursing work and the occurrence of minor psychic disorders among nursing workers. This transversal study includes 491 nursing workers from a university hospital in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In order to evaluate the minor psychic disorders and the psychosocial dimensions, Brazilian versions of the Self-Report questionnaire-20 and the Job Content Questionnaire were used, during the period of March to September of 2006. An 18.7% prevalence of minor psychic disorders was observed . After adjustments for potentially confusing elements, the chance for minor psychic disorders was higher (OR=2.76; IC 95%: 1.21-6.27) in the high demand working quadrant when compared to workers in the low demand working quadrant. We consider it necessary to have organizational and participatory management which includes the workers in the process of changes and improvements in the working environment, mainly those that affect demands and control in work.

The discussion on points linked to the interface between the environment and health has turned into a very important subject of interest nowadays. Thus, this article aims to show a survey of the national and international scientific production about this subject, in an attempt to identify the most frequent themes of this production. The data were collected during the months of March and April of 2005, from two homepages where scientific publications are available on the web, from which, 603 publications were used as analysis material, by means of categorization. The data showed that there is a very significant number of countries with scientific production on this area, being the most frequent the USA and Russia, whose most relevant theme area is related to risk evaluation. Brazil appears as the third most frequent country in terms of production and most of its work is directed to the study of vectors (transmitters) of infecting-contagious diseases. About the other countries, there is a diversification of lines of investigation. In general, it is perceived that the production of knowledge of this area still occurs in a very isolated and fragmented way, with little importance to the diversity of factors involved in the environmental questions, as well as with little space to interdisciplinary and inter sectorial work, so important in the analysis of the interface health-environment.

Reflexivity, knowledge and ecological awareness: premises for responsible action in the hospital work environment

Silviamar Camponogara; Flávia Regina Sousa Ramos; Ana Lúcia Cardoso Kirchhof

The article aims to analyze the interface of reflexivity, knowledge and ecologic awareness in the context of hospital work, based on data collected in a qualitative case study carried out at a public hospital. Field observation data and interviews are discussed in the light of sociologic and philosophic references. Workers expressed the interface between knowledge and action, in which there is a cycle of lack of knowledge, automatism in the actions and lack of environmental awareness, posing limits to individual awareness and to responsibility towards environmental preservation. Increased debate and education, including the environmental issue, are needed in the context of hospital work. Although hospital work is reflexively affected by the environmental problem, that does not guarantee the reorientation of practices and responsible action towards the environment.O artigo propoe analisar a interface reflexividade, conhecimento e consciencia ecologica no contexto do trabalho hospitalar, a partir de dados de pesquisa qualitativa, tipo Estudo de Caso, em instituicao hospitalar publica.

Silviamar Camponogara

Evidences that show that the contemporary society is going through an intense environmental crisis are more and more shocking. As contemporary subjects, we suffer the impact of such environmental problems, but not necessarily do we take actions in order to minimize this environment impact. This text aims to problematize the relation between the environment issues and the area of health, reviewing conceptual bases that may make it possible for health and nursing professionals to reflect about the topic and their role in the process of environmental preservation, especially in an attempt to highlight the legacy left by Florence Nightingale. It is necessary a resumption of the legacy of Florence Nightingale in a way to qualify the environmental dimension as indispensable for the process of health assistance, not only in terms of the promotion of health and quality of life, but also to promote the minimization of the environmental impact that comes with the work in the health area. Ethical reflection and educative approach are fundamental points in this process.

This work consists of an experience report that aims to reflect upon the importance of creating a dialogic space in the process of nursing research, especially during the phase of data collection, as a way to qualify the teaching and research process itself. The experience was carried out from March until August of 2006, when nursing students collected data through interviews for a quantitative study from a population of 532 nursing workers of a University Hospital. During this period, dialogic meetings between the involved workers and researchers occurred, aiming to make the exchange of experiences possible, as well as the establishment of a space where they could express their feelings and difficulties, and where the construction of strategies for action and learning can happen. The experience was significant; pointing out that learning in research must be associated to a dialogic process between those involved, making its autonomy and commitment possible.
