CMOS UWB transceiver for Impulse Radio

In this paper, an Impulse Radio (IR) UWB transceiver system design is presented. The presented circuit includes a bipolar pulse generator based on on-chip filter impulse response, and a LNA coupled with high-speed 1-bit digitizer. The presented study is based on several elementary block realizations (LNA, VCO, RF-filter) on a 0.13 um CMOS standard technology. The impact over the characteristics of the whole system performances from these blocks is analyzed and the design of those main elements is also described.

2.4-GHz frequency synthesizer with open loop FSK modulator for WPAN applications

The design of a low cost, low power multifunction phase-locked loop (PLL) for homeRF application is presented. This PLL is used in reception mode, as frequency synthesizer and in a direct conversion transmitter as a frequency shift keying (FSK) modulator in the transmit mode. Experimental results showing the circuit performances are presented. A CMOS 2.45-GHz ring oscillator with temperature compensation

This paper presents a 2.45-GHz CMOS ring voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with a temperature compensation of the oscillation frequency. This compensation is achieved thanks to a biasing current proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT). This method allows to achieve temperature coefficient as low as 73 ppm/degC in -40degC to 120degC temperature range while saving phase-noise performance as well as power consumption of the oscillator. A detailed study of the all-CMOS proposed structure is performed. Simulation results obtained with 0.28 mum STMicroelectronics CMOS technology are presented.

Gm-C low-pass-filter designed for a Zero-IF base-band demodulator

A versatile 5th order low-cost GM-C low-pass-filter for a Zero-IF base-band demodulation scheme is presented in this paper. The circuit is designed for a low-power 2.45GHz direct-conversion receiver based on frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation with a 2MHz corner frequency to provide rejection of the adjacent channels. Corner frequency of the proposed filter can be easily controlled from a DC bias current source. The circuit has been simulated under 2.5V using the 0.28¿m standard CMOS process technology. The total output noise density is equal to 47nVrms at 2MHz. The corresponding total harmonic distortion is lower than 0.3% when a 2MHz-20mV peak-to-peak input sinusoidal voltage is applied. At the same simulation conditions and up to 8MHz, the circuit exhibits a frequency-rejected higher than 28dBc. The filter total silicon area is 100¿m×100¿m and the total current consumption is 180¿A under 2.5V supply voltage.

A Fully Integrated 2.45-GHz Frequency Synthesizer and FSK Modulator

The feasibility of a low cost, 2.5 Volts supply phase-locked loop (PLL) for HomeRF application is demonstrated. Based on IEEE 802.15.4 specification, this PLL is used in a STMicroelectronics propriatory system to achieve both frequency synthesis and frequency shift keying (FSK) modulation. Simulation results of the PLL and the open loop modulation together with VCO measurements are presented. All the circuits have been fully integrated using STMicroelectronics 0.28 mum CMOS technology.
