RFID-based scale model freight car system allowing realtime quantity checking

Hae-Jong Joo; Moon-Taek Cho; Hwa-Young Jeong

The barcode system currently used in the market has a weakness in that identification is only made when the barcode is visible. Unlike the barcode system, the RFID system uses radio frequency technology, allowing more accurate and faster identification of objects than the barcode system. RFID is a method to identify object data using radio frequency technology by attaching a tag to identification objects to be monitored. Active research has been conducted recently, and a lot of attempts have been made to introduce RFID technology in logistics and manufacturing sectors. This paper presents a method to check the accurate number of articles loaded in the freight car using RFID technology. The present research concerns the method in which the RFID reader and middleware is used to accurately and quickly count the number of RFID-tagged articles in real-time. When the tagged articles arrive at the reader area, the information read by the reader is delivered to the middleware. Then, the middleware identifies the number of tags, displaying the results to the user.

Growth analysis system for IT-based plant factory

Hae-Jong Joo; Hwa-Young Jeong

In this paper, based on core technologies such as overcoming a place’s limitations, light that can substitute for the sunlight, automation, nutrient supply system and temperature, and intelligent situation recognition for solar power generation, geothermal HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning), a plant growth analysis system for vegetation factories was designed. The system is likely to improve the freshness of agricultural products through order and planned productions, to create new markets through the convergence of the IT and BT industries, and to promote convenience in farming and comfort in workspaces through automatic control, robot development, etc. In addition, the system is expected to offer opportunities for urban residents to experience and learn the whole process of a plant’s growth; to provide a leisurely life, such as a downtown oasis, to those who are tired of the dreary city life; to prevent environmental pollution through the effective use of recycled resources; and to produce and stably supply diverse agricultural products all year round, regardless of the weather. Also, we propose a medical condition measurement, including the water content of the plant leaf using the reflected light of the plant leaf in the visible light range NIR(near infrared) region. Proposed a result, the image coordinates (X, Y) for an analysis of a specific wavelength by the refractive index (Z) of a specific wavelength in a specific disease and plants having common characteristics and the refractive index distribution of the refractive index outside the selective wavelength of the plant leaf with respect to the plant were classified by using a specific disease and to predict the characteristics of a plant stress. Therefore, the visible light region and the absorption region due to the moisture including the NIR region 1.4 [μm] by utilizing the reflectance of the wavelength was measured by the change in the abnormal activity in normal metabolic activity and diseases of the plants leaves.

Hae-Gill Choi; Sang-Soo Kim; Moon-Taek Cho; Hae-Jong Joo; Euy-Soo Lee

RFID technology uses communication through the use of radio waves to transfer data between a reader and an electronic tag attached to an object for the purpose of identification and tracking. RFID technology can be applied to the various service areas such as, position determination technology, remote processing management and information exchange between objects by collecting, storing, processing, and tracing their informations from the tag attached to the objects using electronic wave by recognizing the information and environment of those objects. However, to revitalize these various services, it is important to test the RFID tag performance. But there are few instructions which have and hold the RFID emulator technology for organizing the RFID international test environment. Also there are not many manufacturing companies which recognize about the exact RFID test standard and requirements for the International Standards. In this paper, a construction of Tag Performance test environments and test methods are suggested which are required by EPCglobal or ISO/IEC. Details about RFID Tag performance test items proposed by ISO/IEC FDIS 18046-3 are explained, performed RFID Tag performance test through the performing test against each measured item, and draw a result for the RFID Tag performance of International Standards. On the basis of this research, it is desired to contribute to develop a great performing RFID Tag product through the RFID Tag performance test which comes up to the International Standards and construct its application system and facilitate a revitalization of the RFID services.
