MATERIAL MOVEMENT ANALYSIS FOR WAREHOUSE BUSINESS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT WITH PROCESS MINING: A CASE STUDY

Mahendrawathi Er; Hanim Maria Astuti; Ika Rakhma Kusuma Wardhani

Process mining is a technique to model and analyze business process based on traces of activities performed and stored in the database of any information systems being operated by the company i.e. event logs. This paper aims to add literature on the implementation of process mining in warehouse management process. First, extraction of all related activities from LTAK and LTAP tables of SAP Warehouse Management module is conducted. The event log are processed with Heuristic Miner Algorithm in PROM. The output of the mining is the actual business process model. The analysis of the output discover deviation from the standard procedure set by the company with the presence of additional activities and nonstandard flow of materials. The bottleneck analysis shows that the material spent a long time in the high rack and transferred between high racks. The average lead time from material receipt until issued is slightly higher than the target set the company. Further analysis of the issues revealed root-cause of the problems which are insufficient warehouse related capacity such as forklift, racks and staffs to serve incoming materials. Finally, recommendations are provided to deal with the warehouse management issues facing the case companies.

PEMBUATAN STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE PENGEMBANGAN SISTEM INFORMASI MANAJEMEN: STUDI KASUS DPTSI ITS

Anisah Herdiyanti; Ari Cahaya Puspitaningrum; Hanim Maria Astuti; Umi Laili Yuhana

DPTSI is an information technology unit in Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). One of its section is Subdit PSI who is responsible for developing Management Information Systems (MIS) application to other units in ITS. Some problems exist when there is no single procedure available, including unstandardized processes of software development and lack of control in software quality development. A standard operating procedure is needed for this purpose and is constructed according to IT governance best practice framework, i.e. ITIL v3 and COBIT 5. Prior the development of SOP, a gap analysis was conducted to find important activities in software development. As a result, 5 (five) SOPs and 14 forms were developed. The results were then validated through simulation and focus group discussion with Subdit PSI. The research contributes to the implementation of IT governance best practice framework and also serves as a reference for management to standardize IT management process.

Web usability evaluation on BloobIS website by using hallway usability testing method and ISO 9241:11

Tony Dwi Susanto; Anisa Ingesti Prasetyo; Hanim Maria Astuti

At this moment, the need for web as an information media is highly important. Not only confined in the infotainment area, government, and education, but health as well uses the web media as a medium for providing information effectively. BloobIS is a web based application which integrates blood supply and distribution information at the Blood Transfusion Unit. Knowing how easy information is on BloobIS is marked by how convenient the website is used. Up until now, the BloobIS website is nearing completion but testing has not yet been performed to users and is on the testing and development phase in the Development Life Cycle software. Thus, an evaluation namely the quality control software which focuses on the perspective of BloobIs web usability is required. Hallway Usability Testing and ISO 9241:11 are the methods chosen to measure the BloobIS application usability. The expected outputs of the quality control software focusing on the usability evaluation are being able to rectify the usability deficiencies on the BloobIs web and provide recommendations to develop the web as a basic BloobIS web quality upgraed which sets a goal to amplify the satisfaction of web users based on usability factors in ISO 9241:11.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the result of using process mining to model the production planning (PP) process of a manufacturing company that is supported by enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses event logs obtained from the case company’s ERP database. The steps for this research are planning process mining implementation, extraction and construction of event log, discovering process model with Heuristic Miner and analysis. Findings Process model obtained from process mining shows how the PP is actually conducted. It shows the loop in materials requirement planning and create plan order process. Furthermore, the occurrences of changing plan order date and production line indicate the schedule instability in the case company. Further analysis of the material management (MM) event log shows the implication of production plan changes on MM. Continuous change in the plan affects material allocation priority and may result in a mismatch between production needs and the materials available. Research limitations/implications The study is only conducted in a single and specific case. Therefore, even though the findings provide good insight, the use of solitary case study does not imply a general result applied to other cases. Hence, there is a need to conduct similar studies on various cases so that a more generic conclusion can be drawn. Practical implications The result provides insights into how the current company’s policy of adjusting the production plan to accommodate changing demand impacts their operation. It can help the company to consider a better balance between flexibility and efficiency to improve their process. Originality/value The paper demonstrates the use of process mining to capture the real progression of PP based on the data stored in the company’s ERP database, which give an insight into how a real company conducts their PP process, the implication of schedule instability on MM and production. The novelty of this research lies in the use of process mining to attest to the schedule nervousness issue at a process level.

The development of quality gates instrument for e-learning implementation

Feby Artwodini Muqtadiroh; Hanim Maria Astuti; Rian Triadi

A poor project management is one of the causes of failure of e-learning implementation processes. There are number of activities to be well completed in an e-learning project, yet in its execution there are normally some activities fail. The failure to maintain an on-going software project quality will badly affect the final software product (e-learning).

THE SERVICE QUALITY OF INDONESIA’S LOGISTICS SERVICE PROVIDER IN PREPARATION FOR ASEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY

Mahendrawathi Er; Thananya Wasusri; Hanim Maria Astuti; Anisah Herdiyanti

Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) in Indonesia will play an increasingly significant part in the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). To prepare for the single market place at the end of 2015, Indonesia LSPs need to understand their existing situation and how they can improve their performance. The study follows a prior research on Thai LSPs and thus the same questionnaire was distributed to Indonesia LSPs and users. The SERVQUAL method was utilized to identify the gaps between the LSPs and users. It was found that neither Indonesia LSPs nor Thai LSPs can perform their service to meet with their customers’ expectation over the service delivered. The LSPs must improve their performance to satisfy their customers, which will directly drive product flows and eventually help them gain benefits from AEC.
