Objectives : This study has been designed and performed to identify the effect on Bell`s palsy according to the injection of herbal medicine induced from the Hominis Placenta. Methods : We measured the facial palsy changes of the patients who were admitted for Bell`s palsy in the Oriental Medical hospital of Dongeui medical center from 03-01-2004 to 07-31-2004. Bell`s palsy patients were divided into two groups. One group(A group) was injected with Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture. The other group(B group) was injected with normal saline. Then effects of these treatment was evaluated by Yanagihara`s unweighted grading system. Results : A group was marked more higher than B group in treatment outcome. we discovered that it is significant differences between two groups after 4 week. Conclusions : These results provided that A group is more effective than B group. For clearly proving the effect of Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture on Bell`s palsy, it is need more sample`s number and more treatment`s duration.

Objective : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of HHT(Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture) on functional headache. Methods : 26 clinical experiment participants who experienced functional headache were gathered. The qualified patients were classified in two group, Normal saline injection group and Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture group. NS group was injected normal saline and HHT group was injected HHT at GB20, GB21, LI4. Treatment was applied 4 times every second day. The effects of both groups were analyzed using VAS scores and BPI(Brief Pain Inventory). Result : The VAS pain scores improved in both groups. the BPI scores decreased only in HHT group. The decrease rate of VAS scores and BPI scores was larger in HHT group. Conclusion : These results provided that HHT group is more effective than NS group. For clearly comparing the Effect of Hwangryunhaedoktang Herbal-Acupuncture on functional headache, it is need more sample`s number and more treatment`s duration.

Objective The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of treatment effects and allergic responses to stiff neck between Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture and Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture. Methods Forty one patients who felt stiff neck were randomly divided into two groups, a Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture group(group I) and a Sweet Bee Venom Pharmacopuncture group(group II). Evaluations of the treatment effects were made before and after a treatment using Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Neck Disability Index(NDI), Clinical Evaluation Grade(CEG). The comparison of allergic responses was measured with VAS. The obtained data were analyzed and compared with SPSS. Results The group I and group II showed significant improvement(p

Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of Hominis Placenta Pharmacopuncture(HPP) on lower limb spasticity control in stroke patients. Methods : Twenty stroke patients with Leg spasticity were randomly divided into two groups, a Distilled water Pharmacopuncture(group I) and a HPP(group II). The number of Pharmacopuncture was 5 times a week and acupuncture treatment was 3 times a week for 3 weeks. Modified Ashworth Scale(MAS), H-reflex/M-response ratio(H/M ratio), Berg Balance Scale(BBS) and Time Up & Go(TUG) were used for evaluation of spasticity control before experiment, after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks. Results : Group I showed significant improvement(p.05) in BBS but no significant improvement in MAS, H/M ratio, and TUG. Group II showed significant improvement(p.05) in MAS, BBS, and TUG, but no significant improvement in H/M ratio. The results showed significant difference in TUG, but no significant difference in MAS, H/M ratio and BBS between 2 groups. Conclusion : These results showed that HPP might decrease lower limb spasticity and increase leg motor function in stroke patients. Further studies will be required to examine more cases in the long period for the effect on lower limb in spasticity by HPP.

Objectives This study is for comparing the results in two groups of using Oriental medical treatment only with using Oriental-Western medical treatment together to shoulder pain patients. Methods 49 shoulder pain patients who participated in the clinical study both at the Bukpyeoung Haemalkeun Oriental Medical Clinic and at the Bukpyeoung Medical Clinic in Donghae city were classified 2 groups. Group A was treated with Oriental medical therapy only and group B was treated with Oriental-Western medical treatment together. They have been treated 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Results After 1, 2 and 4 weeks of each treatment, the scores of the two groups in `Subjective symptoms of shoulder pain`, `Indisposition index of every day life`, `Shoulder pain and disability index`, `Visual analog scale` became signific antly lower than those before treatment. Conclusion Treatment of group B was better than treatment of group A but, there was no significant difference in therapeutic action between two groups.

Objectives We studied on anti-allergic effects of Ganoderma lucidum herbal acupuncture(GHA) and Ganoderma lucidum extract(GE). Methods In vivo, Animals were herbal-acupunctured GHA at both B13s three times for 5 days. Then, we investigated compound 48/80-induced active systemic anaphylatic shock using ICR mice and anti-DNP IgE-induced passive cutaneous anaphylaxis using Sprague Dawley rat. In vitro, we measured cell viability, b-hexosaminidase release, IL-4 and TNF-a from RBL-2H3 cells, and nitric oxide from Raw264.7 cell after treatment of GE of various concentrations. Results In vivo, GHA pretreatments at both B13s inhibited compound 48/80-induced active systemic anaphylatic shock. Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis were inhibited by GHA10 and OP. In vitro, GE treatments were not affect on cell viability and inhibited b-hexosaminidase release, IL-4, TNF-a and nitric oxide. Conclusions These results suggest that GHA and GE may be beneficial in the inhibition of allergic inflammatory response.

Objective The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of treatment effect between Oriental Medicine therapy and Oriental and Western Medicine combination therapy on traffic accident patients. Methods Sixty one traffic accident patients were randomly assigned to the Oriental Medicine therapy group(group Ⅰ)and Oriental and Western Medicine combination therapy group(group Ⅱ). Evaluations were made before treatment, after one week treatment and after two weeks treatment using Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Oswestry disability Index(ODI), Neck Disability Index(NDI), Roland Morris Disability Scale(RMDS). The obtained data were analyzed and compared. Results The group Ⅰ showed significant improvement(p<0.05) according to the VAS, NDI. But that showed insignificant improvement according to the ODI, RMDS. The group Ⅱ showed significant improvement(p<0.05) according to the VAS, NDI. But that showed insignificant improvement according to the ODI, RMDS. And the difference between the two groups were insignificant according to VAS, NDI, ODI and RMDS. Conclusion There is no significant difference between the two groups after each therapy on traffic accident patients. Further studies are needed for the comparison of the Oriental Medicine therapy and Western Medicine combination therapy.

By process of treatment for a case which diagnosed as HNP of left posterolateral aspect of L4/5 disc and treated from the 10th, May 2001 to the 23rd, Jun 2001, the results are as follows. Method & Results : This patient was medicated Hwallaktang-gami, taken acupuncture, phototherapy, TENS, electric acupuncture, exercises, Mori Cortex-bee venom acupuncture. As a result, the patient`s clinical symptom were improved but a computed tomagraphy confirmed L4/5 and L5/S1 HNP was not changed as seen on repeated CT scanning. Conclusion : These results suggest that among conservative therapies the oriental medical treatments including Mori Cortex-bee venom acupuncture improve clinical symptom effectively. But in this case, the structure of herniated disc was not changed.
