Pervivencia o “supervivencia” de la tradición en el Guadarrama segoviano. Procesos y prácticas

Luis Carlos Martínez Fernández; Ignacio Molina de la Torre; José María Delgado Urrecho

Livestock farming is the predominant factor of spatial organization in the Guadarrama mountain range (Segovia), although cattle activity has been in a long decline since the 1950s. The numbers of farms and livestock have decreased and the handling of animals and land use have been simplified. A crisis occurred in the traditional system and its territorial model, and this has been replaced by a traditional-degraded spatial organization. It is the “survival” of tradition, which can also be seen in the long process of depopulation: the number of inhabitants, the size of the villages and the number of settlements have decreased, while the age of the population has increased. Thus, “survival” is conditioned by population depletion.

Procesos demográficos y urbanos en la transformación espacial de la ciudad de Avila

Luis Carlos Martínez Fernández; Ignacio Molina de la Torre; José María Delgado Urrecho

Demographic and urban processes in the spatial transformation of the city of Avila The city of Avila is configured, currently, as a compact urban structure. This space has seen a unprecedented growth over the last sixty years and, particularly, during the first decade of the new century, which is not always reciprocated between the population evolution and residential development. An extension of the urban space -whose strategic support has also established based on the dialectic between center and periphery- sized exorbitantly by the conjunction of a number of urban interests completely truncated by the economic crisis. This way to continue building the city -which are stated explicitly by urban planning- seems to be more a utopia than a reality, according to population projections that herald a demographic horizon not flattering.
