Reverse logistics for the end-of-life and end-of-use products in the pharmaceutical industry: a systematic literature review

Elaine Aparecida Regiani de Campos; Istefani Carísio de Paula; Regina Negri Pagani; Patrícia Guarnieri

The aim of this paper is to develop a systematic literature review (SLR) aiming to identify reverse logistics (RL) concepts and practices applied to the end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-use (EOU) of pharmaceuticals and to identify and synthesize, through bibliometric indicators, research opportunities on RL, considering the analysis of publications in the periodical Supply Chain Management: An International Journal (SCMij).,The SLR followed two steps, namely, search for articles on the subject and content analysis of selected material and bibliometric analysis of publications using VOSviewer®.,The SLR allowed the compilation of evidences regarding pharmaceutical RL in the groups: environmental risk, the RL evolution and regulatory and stakeholder’s educational perspective. Despite the timid specific literature on pharmaceutical RL, it was also possible to point out research gaps and opportunities. Pharmaceutical RL seems to be influenced by studies from traditional RL including mathematical modeling, managerial strategies and technologies but prescind of a systemic solution. Besides reducing environmental impact, the motivation to implement pharmaceutical RL resides in its potential for revenue. Considering integrated logistics as a trend and an emerging issue, RL for the pharmaceutical industry needs to be addressed more thorough and broadly.,The limited number of papers returned in this SLR of pharmaceutical RL impaired the bibliometric analysis of them, leading to the inclusion of papers on general RL.,This study provides an overview of the evolution of RL in the pharmaceutical industry, it also clarifies concepts and EOL/EOU practices, particularly directed to the pharmaceutical industry RL.

Carla Pedroso; Istefani Carísio de Paula; Joana Siqueira de Souza

Portfolio Management is the centralized management of one or more portfolios, which includes identifying, prioritizing, authorizing, managing and controlling projects, programs and related work to achieve specific strategic business objectives. There are different methods and tools in the literature that can be applied to portfolio management. The objective in this paper is to analyze the same portfolio using the DEIN and PAMP methods for comparison purposes. One of the tools is based on scoring models, while the other is based on economic-financial models. The case study was performed in a small food company where the feasibility of the two methods was evaluated. The results indicated that the methods can be applied complementarily and, although they present different basis, they resulted in a comparable product portfolio.

Requirements processing for building design: a systematic review

Camila Pegoraro; Istefani Carísio de Paula

Abstract Problems in buildings can often be traced back to the requirements processing in the design phases. In building design, requirements processing is mainly discussed under the term briefing and is a critical and a problematic process. This study focus on the design stage and aims to summarize and analyze requirements’ processing concepts and practices by a systematic review. The main problems, guidelines, tools and methods were analyzed and compared to the requirements engineering and management approaches. The findings indicate lack of consensus about key concepts and about the coverage of requirements processing, lack of applied methods and lack of practitioners’ knowledge. From the gaps, we proposed a definition for the key concepts, and scheme of this whole requirements processing in building design and indicate recommendations for future research, which can guide important contributions, especially if supported by practical experiences. Keywords Requirements processing. Building design. Design management. Construction.

When thinking of innovation applied to packaging, it becomes evident that there is a profusion of propositions of an applied nature to improve and benefit. However, the literature does not present guidelines that help assessing the main innovation factors applied to paperboard packaging. This article aimed to identify guidelines for assessing innovation in the design and production of paperboard consumer packaging which could be used to identify the type and intensity of incident innovation factor(s). The study used a qualitative/descriptive methodological approach and literature review.

Requirements processing tools and the building designers motivation on use

Camila Pegoraro; Istefani Carísio de Paula

The successful development of projects requires, among other conditions, the ability to process requirements. In the construction literature, researchers have figured out that human difficulties was often at the root of Requirements Processing (RP) problems throughout the design phases, and that the employment of tools could be a key factor for RP implementation. To check these outcomes and to look at how current practitioners behave in relation to the RP tools, an exploratory case study was conducted with a building design team from a public university. The aim of this paper was to investigate the perception of benefits and the motivation of designers regarding the RP tools. The results indicated that 42% of the participants are highly motivated to use new tools and that they have more interest in tools that deal directly with design activities than in those focused on data. Validation tools aroused interest as the most useful tools for designers. 66,7% of the participants mentioned that the tools can make the design process clearer, and that training and adaptation are crucial to promote acceptance and commitment to RP. The main contribution is the indication of gaps for further research and for tools improvement from the designers’ perspective

Gestão de requisitos na construção civil: um estudo de caso focado nos requisitos ambientais de um projeto urbanístico

Camila Pegoraro; Tarcisio Abreu Saurin; Istefani Carísio de Paula

This article introduces guidelines for managing requirements during the building of the environment design process. A preliminary version of these guidelines was developed based on a literature review and an exploratory study. Such version was partially applied and enhanced in a case study of an urban project, where the environmental requirements were emphasized. Multiple sources of data were adopted in the case study, such as 12 hours of interviews, analysis of documents (e.g., environmental licenses) and observation of meetings related to the design process. The proposed guidelines have a holistic view of requirements management and involve all its phases along the design process. In addition, techniques that allow the control of change were indicated. The data available were also useful for assessing the guidelines from the perspective of their usability and effectiveness. Among the insights obtained from the case study, the contribution of the guidelines was evident in the elicitation, organization and visibility of environmental requirements, which benefits the decision-making.
