The market for mobile digital contents is undergoing a process of value system reconfiguration, giving rise to the need of developing original models capable of describing its structure and disclosing the drivers of value creation. The purpose of this paper is to apply Value Networks and Strategic Networks theories to Mobile Content market. At first, a model entangling the market’s key value adding activities will be provided. Consequently, four alternative configurations of feasible Mobile Content Value Networks will be proposed and evaluated with reference to a set of structural and dynamic variables drawn from an extensive literature review. The research relies on the adoption of a multiple case studies methodology: 94 in-depth exploratory case studies were performed. The findings show how varying the set of value adding activities covered by the different actors shapes the network structure and inner dynamics, with significant impacts on the firms’ behavior and strategic options.

Disruptive technology has a long history in the computing industry. The usual path of innovation in this industry is toward delivering increased computing power on smaller devices. Both architectural and component innovation play an important role in this evolution. Nowadays, it seems that the computing device paradigm is experiencing a transition from notebooks and laptops toward touchscreen tablets. But is this new technology really disruptive? Drawing from the literature on disruptive innovation, the authors answer this question by analyzing the functionalities and performance dimensions of notebooks and tablets.

A analise e solucao de problemas relacionados a qualidade e uma necessidade no contexto industrial. Tal processo deve ser realizado de forma agil e eficiente para que uma organizacao possa ser competitiva. O uso de sistemas de informacao no apoio aos Metodos de Analise e Solucao de Problemas (MASP) mostra-se um diferencial importante na busca por melhores resultados neste campo. Assim, este artigo apresenta um estudo de caso no qual se realiza um levantamento dos principais fatores que influenciam no sucesso da aplicacao de sistemas de informacao no apoio a MASP e ilustra como estes fatores impactam a utilizacao destes sistemas. Para analisar os fatores foi utilizada uma classificacao baseada na abordagem de sistemas sociotecnicos contemplando pessoas, tecnologias e organizacao. Os resultados permitiram identificar os fatores mais criticos para o sucesso do uso destas ferramentas, bem como diretrizes para um melhor desempenho das mesmas.

Abstract Innovation and risk are inseparable. In fact, literature on innovation management often recommends that innovation-oriented firms must actively monitor, evaluate, analyze and treat future events in order to mitigate risks whenever possible. This approach is particularly important in emergent economies characterized by unstructured national innovation systems and constant economic and market instability. However, there has been no systematic effort to identify and categorize risks that potentially impact businesses based on innovation. Thus, we propose an interpretative framework of risk events with potential financial impact in innovation-oriented firms constructed and tested by means of a mixed studies review. The risk events were identified through a comprehensive systematic search and review of the published literature on risk and innovation. From the 115 works that were analyzed, it was possible to identify nine categories of risk events frequently associated with innovation-oriented businesses that may generate financial impacts. The proposed interpretative framework was tested in an empirical study with 13 innovation-oriented firms located in six Brazilian technological parks. Results from the empirical study suggest that managers found the proposed interpretative framework complete and comprehensive. Moreover, the empirical study signaled which risk events are more relevant for the Brazilian context. The proposed framework is a first necessary step for future development of ERM models applicable in innovation-intensive contexts.

BACKGROUND It is well known that the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are important to assist people with disability in the workplace. OBJECTIVE In this context, this paper sheds light on the state of ICT accessibility for Italian employees with disabilities in private sector companies by mapping and critically analyzing the assistive role of ICT. METHODS To do this, empirical evidence was drawn from a multi-methods research with middle and top managers from 97 medium and large Italian companies. Quantitative data was collected using a survey was directed at personnel identified as Human Resource (HR) and Information System (IS) managers, followed by a qualitative study with selected firms whose aim was to understand the inner workings of assistive technology and the decision making process related to assistive technology acquisition and use. RESULTS The main results show the role and the integration level of people with disabilities, and the presence and effectiveness of specific assistive technologies. DISCUSSION Ways to improve the inclusion of people with disability in the workplace, as well as the use of assistive technologies are discussed. CONCLUSION ICT could be more disseminated within companies and best used with modifications to improve usability.

Este artigo propoe um instrumento de avaliacao para a educacao a distância, e relata a sua aplicacao na Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. No desenvolvimento da proposta, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliografica e, posteriormente, uma pesquisa de campo a fim de testar o pre-instrumento de avaliacao proposto junto aos alunos do Curso de Pedagogia a distância e a sua validacao junto a amostra considerada. O instrumento proposto possui 67 itens que permitem avaliar as dimensoes: (i) corpo docente, corpo de tutores e coordenacao; (ii) organizacao didatico-pedagogica e; (iii) instalacoes fisicas. O alfa de Cronbach do instrumento foi de 0,982, o que indica alta consistencia interna, oportunizando a validacao do instrumento. No total, 165 alunos participaram da pesquisa. Dada a generalidade do instrumento proposto, conclui-se que o mesmo pode ser aplicado para a avaliacao da educacao a distância ofertada por qualquer tipo de Instituicao, seja de natureza publica ou privada.
