Jaime Antero Arango; Jaime Alberto Giraldo; Omar Danilo Castrillón

Jaime Alberto Giraldo; Carlos Andres Orozco Toro; Fabián A Jaramillo

This article presents an educational strategy based on a simulation model as a tool to support teaching learning sequencing jobs in a configuration job shop production. The idea came as part of a breeding research scheme in simulation of production systems and services, using the instructional design learning method based on problem solving (Problem-solving-Based Learning PBL). In the computational design, in the discrete event simulation and in the communication design, a simple and user-friendly interface was used. This is based on human-computer interaction using spreadsheets. It is concluded that simulation helps in the space-time compression required in virtual learning environments.

Programación de Sistemas de Producción Híbridos, Para inventario/Bajo pedido, mediante un Proceso Analítico Jerárquico de Ordenación Grupal (GAHPO)

Pamela Escobar; Jaime Alberto Giraldo; Diana Maria Cardenas

This article presents a case study of a new production scheduling methodology applied on a manufacturing facility located on Manizales, Colombia, which combines Make to Stock (MTS) and Make to Order (MTO) environments. This implies to respond, using limited resources, to different, and sometimes opposite objectives, with negative impact on the service level. The proposed methodology uses group analytic hierarchy process ordering (GAHPO) to develop a dispatching rule combining three priority criteria, that when it is compared with other three simple rules, through a discrete event simulation model, presents better performance in most of the selected measures of interest. The study allows concluding that for companies which operate under hybrid environments it is possible to reach equilibrium between market satisfaction and the utilization of available resources.

Modelo de Predicción de Costos en Servicios de Salud Soportado en Simulación Discreta

Jhonathan M Vargas; Jaime Alberto Giraldo

A model to support decision making about health service is proposed. Discrete simulation has been used, evaluating different scenarios of health service delivered by an Institution of Health Services (IHS): general medical consultation, emergency, hospitalization and catastrophic diseases, among others. The model was developed so any IHS can simulate typical cost of service for one year using indicators from national health statistics adjusting values to the specific behavior of the HIS. The results obtained with the model have revealed that the costing approach is effective, and that the national average values of certain parameters must be modified for each case. Otherwise, important errors can be introduced in the budget when the variations of these parameters are not included.

Omar Danilo Castrillón; William Sarache; Jaime Alberto Giraldo

Carlos E Marulanda; Jaime Alberto Giraldo; Marcelo López

The aim of this work was to establish the state of knowledge management in the cluster of information and communications technologies in the coffee region of Colombia. Twenty two companies were evaluated in relation to practice, and skills of their employees to manage knowledge. Progress is evident in the development of skills for knowledge management and slow progress on the appropriation and use of practices. It is proposed that companies incorporate a guided knowledge management policy. This study contributes to the academic community and to the coffee cluster with a new form of evaluation and a baseline to enhance intellectual capital and organizational knowledge management.

Omar A Tapasco; Jaime Alberto Giraldo

EnglishThe purpose of this research was to collect information about the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in university teaching, the perception of the teachers about the ICT and the assessment of the technological infrastructure available, from a comparative perspective between public and private universities. For this, a survey was carried out among 147 teachers from institutions of the Eje Cafetero, Colombia. Factor analysis, multiple correspondence analysis and independence tests were used. Marked differences were found between teachers of public and private universities, some differences with respect to gender, but no significant differences were found in relation to other descriptive variables of the teacher such as age, education level or years of teaching experience. But although the results are favorable to the teachers of private institutions, there is also evidence of a higher level of stress associated with the use of technologies among them.

Jaime Alberto Giraldo; Juanita Pinilla

This study addresses the issue of how to improve learning of service processes in industrial engineering programs through the technology known as Business Process Simulation (BPSIM). It is proposed to support such learning, based on the problem solving methodology employing a software tool that considers the cycle process modeling approach: selection, layout, validation, time analysis, resource analysis and analysis schedules. The tool developed is based on BPMN 2.0 (Business Process Modeling Notation) and in the use of an open-access software which includes a process simulator. The process implemented is the well-known service recruitment and integration of staff in a company. A pilot test done with a group of industrial engineering students allows concluding that the tool can be useful in the learning of process management service.
