Jaime Molina Vidal

The present study analyses the changes experienced by the Hispanic economy at the end of the Republican era, enabling production to exceed modest levels and to penetrate into the Mediterranean markets, including Rome itself. We have maintained that the inrush of Hispanic goods must have taken place before the August era, during the Civil War period. We have also provided new elements that focus on this period, and especially that the Caesar, as being a key moment in the Hispanic economy that was to become a main focus in migratory movements, investments and new techniques, as well as approaches in agricultural and commercial production. Likewise, we have pointed out some of the repercussions that this peak in the Hispanic economy had, for example, in the investments that took place in the Italian peninsula, or the decadence of Apulian agriculture.

Jaime Molina Vidal

We present a Roman farm (1st to 3rd century AD) located in the natural park of The Clot of Galvany (Elx), next to a wetland of poor soils. Its peripheral location with respect to the centuriated area in Ilici , the material remains that have been found (mills, absence of transformation structures, relative isolation) and the remarkable structural and functional simplicity emphasize the self-sufficient character of this settlement. The archaeological area was abandoned after the Roman period and it was occupied again from the 17 th century, coinciding with the population growth in Modern age, as evidenced by the building of a chapel. All these lead us to raise questions concerning the demographic pressure in Early Imperial period and the characterization of non-oligarchic peasant settlements of the Roman territories.

Cleòpatra, l'últim filtre: deconstrucció d'un personatge històric

Jaime Molina Vidal
