The ancient islamic settlement of El Molon (Camporrobles, Valencia) is placed on a cretacic plateau mountain that rises up dominating the whole of the north-eastern area of the Utiel-Requena region (Valencia) and the surrounding lands, the mountainous area know as Baja Serrania Conquense. This emplacement, ideal for a strategic and defensive settlement, and the presence of a lagoon at the foot of the mountain, helped the development of an hisn type of settlement. A religious building –a mosque– is located inside. This fortified settlement is divided into three areas. Moreover, on the south slope of the mountain there is an area where suburbs might have once existed, and on the north one there are some enclosures and one cistern. The Molon hillfort showed an outstanding occupation during the Iron Age. The Islamic settlement dates back to between the 8th and 10th Centuries AD, as confirmed by some of the earlier types of «Valencian cooking pot» that were exclusively found in this area.

Research surrounding the transition from II to I millennium cal BC in Eastern Iberian Peninsula has a large and extensive tradition of investigation. However, the chances to do research on this historical process have been limited by the lack of a well contextualized and dated stratigraphic sequence. For this reason, recent studies in this topic have followed the periodic proposals which were developed in closer regions and areas, especially in the South East and North East of the Peninsula. The investigation perspective about the Late Bronze in Eastern Iberian has however now improved, with the development of several archaeological investigations, the increase in the number of sites being dated and more recent studies into the region helping to bring about this change. As such, it is now in the correct state to be able to propose a new periodization and delve into the changes which occurred in the transition between 1500 and 725 cal BC.

We present a Latin inscription painted on a local pottery shard from the Early Roman Empire, which was discovered by chance on the southeastern slope of El Castellar (Crevillent, Alicante). The object should be attributed to the workshops in La Alcudia (Elche) and adds to the few epigraphic documents on pottery documented in the area of Ilici.
