An intelligent vehicular telematics platform for vehicle driving safety supporting system

Liang-Bi Chen; Hong-Yuan Li; Wan-Jung Chang; Jing-Jou Tang; Katherine Shu-Min Li

This paper proposes an intelligent vehicular telematics platform, which consists of an in-vehicle device connecting the CAN bus with an ODB-II bridge construction, and a mobile application software on smartphone for vehicle driving safety. The proposed platform can real-time monitor vehicular information (such as vehicle engine speed, oxygen, speed per hour, and water temperature), which can efficiently reduce major accidents occurrence ratio. Moreover, the proposed platform also provides immediate vehicle location GPS coordinates and date that can effectively help to recover the lost vehicles.

In this paper, a novel hardware architecture of Controller Area Network (CAN) applications is proposed. Taking advantage of a highly integrated chip, which functions as a CAN controller as well as a CAN transceiver, the proposed architecture reduces the number of necessary external components, supports popular serial buses and thus facilitates application development. The architecture is applied in a CAN to Bluetooth bridge, whose design is described in this article. It is demonstrated that the proposed architecture is stable and practical.

Design and development of an extensible multi-protocol automotive gateway

This paper proposes a multi-protocol automotive gateway, which supports three popular communication protocols, CAN bus, Wi-Fi, and RS-232. The proposed gateway is implemented on an embedded Linux system ported to an ARM development board. A dedicated application is designed to deal with the information exchange among the ports of the gateway. An ACL is implemented to control the permission of data frames on the CAN bus. Strict rules are prescribed to ensure that crucial ECUs are unapproachable. Frames from readable nodes can be accessible from the other ports of the gateway while only information destined to writable nodes is forwarded to the CAN bus. In addition, data rate is regulated to avoid congestion on the CAN bus. Unoccupied GPIOs that support other protocols are exported on the board for the future extension. Besides, an empty hook function is provided to support the extension of additional application.

An efficient fault tolerance path finding algorithm for improving the robustness of multichannel wireless mesh networks

Liang-Bi Chen; Bo-Chuan Cheng; You-Chiun Wang; Katherine Shu-Min Li; Jing-Jou Tang

A multichannel wireless mesh network is composed of wireless routers with multiple radio interfaces operating on non-overlapping channels. It provides a network backbone to support multi-hop connectivity between wireless users and the Internet gateways. However, robustness is a critical issue in such networks because wireless links could be prone to error. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves 100% robustness and fault tolerance when only one link fails. In addition, it can tolerate around 29.71%-45.61% of link failure in the network.
