Agroenergetic Policies for the production of biofuels is presented under the assumptions of sustainable development. The ethanol fuel, produced from sugarcane, appears as a more viable alternative, which stimulates growth of new processes and spatial distribution of the sugarcane production. Goias state is one of the main routes of expansion of the sugarcane. This article aims to understand the contradictions of the social issues within the official discourse of the National Plan of Agroenergy and the impacts associated with the expansion of sugarcane monoculture in regions of predominance of family farming. The development of the theme is based on a case study, conducted in Itapuranga city (Goias state), using a qualitative approach and combining the techniques of literature search, observation and interviews. It was found that these policies helped to transform the social context of Itapuranga and cause considerable changes in the organizational dynamics of family farmers.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the emergence of the child labor problem in tobacco growing in Agudo (Rio Grande do Sul state), triggered by the promulgation of Act 6.481/2008, which addresses the worst child labor conditions. The methodological procedures used were the literature review, desk research and a case study, conducted in the municipality of Agudo. In the case study, we have tried to obtain quantitative and qualitative data through questionnaires and open interviews directed to 27 tobacco growers, and with teenagers and children under 18 years old. The survey results indicate the existence of a clash between different conceptions of child labor in small scale family farmers. The legal devices, the commitment terms and the tobacco supply chain contracts forbid child labor below the age of 18 based on international agreements and regulations which guarantee childhood development. From the perspective of the families, child labor is understood as “help†and a way of socialization and training of the inheritor. Therefore, parents do not agree that child labor is a perverse form of labor exploitation of their children.

In this article, the sugar cane political network in the Goias State, Brazil, focusing on the power resources of its agents and on the informational asymmetry originated from contractual agreements, is analyzed. The field data were acquired via a combination of semi-structured interviews and documental research. The sugar cane agribusiness holds resources of economic, political, technological, and legal power, which generate informational asymmetries in the sugar cane production chain, in the Goias State. The informational asymmetry makes it difficult to fulfill agrarian agreements, as well as suppliers and their organizations demands.

The aim of this work is to analyze the agreements dealt between the sugar-cane agribusiness and the sugar-cane suppliers for raw material supply based upon a case study in Goiás State, Brazil. The conclusion is that the sugar-cane agribusiness keeps the control on the information producing asymmetry in the social relationship forcing the raw material suppliers to accept its impositions keeping them linked to its interest due to absence of better economical options.
