Relaxation-oscillation-free continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator pumped internal to a semiconductor Disk Laser

David J. M. Stothard; John-Mark Hopkins; David Burns; Malcolm H. Dunn

We describe a continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator operated within a semiconductor disk laser, free of relaxation oscillations associated with neodymium-based systems. Parametric threshold occurred at 1.4W primary (diode) pump power and 8.5W yielded 205mW idler.

Intracavity Synthetic Diamond: Underpinning Wavelength Diversity in Semiconductor Disk Lasers

Alan J. Kemp; Alexander J. Maclean; John-Mark Hopkins; Jennifer E. Hastie; S. Calvez; Martin D. Dawson; David Burns

Semiconductor disk lasers are diode-pumped solid-state lasers offering broad spectral coverage. An approach to thermal management that is similarly adaptable is thus required: finite element analysis shows that intracavity diamond heatspreaders are such an approach.

Heatspreader-Based Thermal Management in VECSELs: Thermal Lensing in Microchip Devices

Alan J. Kemp; Jennifer E. Hastie; S.A. Smith; John-Mark Hopkins; S. Calvez; G.J. Valentine; Martin D. Dawson; David Burns

Finite-element analysis is used to explore the practicalities and scaling potential of heatspreaders in vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting lasers. Thermal lensing and its implications for quasi-monolithic microchip geometries are emphasised.
